What we boxing fans don't know that yesterday was George Chuvalo turning big 8-0. I would like to say happy belated birthday to one of the greatest Canadians of all-time. He belongs with the Canadian greats as Sam Langford, Jimmy McLarnin, Tommy Burns and others.

Yesterday he was on the front page of a major paper here in Vancouver. He transcended the sport in Canada and became a national hero....I think he's still easily a bigger name here than any active boxer.

I strongly agree with you that Chuvalo is one of the bigger names in Canada than any active boxer and despite his success in the ring, he lost 3 sons from drug overdose and suicide after retiring from the ring. What amaze us is that Chuvalo is now outliving 5 out of 6 former champions who fought him.
