Gennady Golovkin is undaunted by the challenge of fighting for the first time in Las Vegas, saying defending his titles against Canelo Alvarez will be like going on a date with a beautiful girl.

Four belt champion Golovkin will be the underdog when he faces Mexico's hard-hitting Alvarez on Saturday in a 12-round mega world title fight at the T-Moblie Arena.

The 35-year-old from Kazakhstan told reporters at a news conference on Wednesday at the MGM Grand Hotel and Casino that he doesn't consider himself an underdog against Alvarez, who is eight years his junior.

Golovkin has waited a long time to get his first fight on the boxing's biggest stage in the United States. He is undefeated with a 37-0 record and has fought in 22 cities and seven different countries but never in Sin City.

Several years ago Golovkin hired a much younger Alvarez to be one of his sparring partners at a training camp in Big Bear, California. So there is some familiarity between the two but Golovkin expects Alvarez to come into the fight with a few new wrinkles in his game plan. Golovkin's trainer Abel Sanchez said the two fighters' punching power will make for an interesting contest.

Sanchez said Golovkin lost some of his popularity after his last fight in March because he had to go the distance to beat Daniel Jacobs instead of knocking the challenger out.

Sanchez says Jacobs is a better fighter than Alvarez. "If Jacobs had fought Canelo that night it would have come out different. If you switched Canelo in with Jacobs and Gennady in with Chavez Jr. - Jacobs would win and Gennady would have knocked Chavez out," he said.

Ggg would definitely have stopped Chavez imo.

I'd fancy Sanchez is right that Jacobs would have won also

I will guarantee that Canelo wouldn't have lost to Jacobs in Vegas especially if the conditions were the same with both GGG and Canelo needing a wing to face each other in a big money fight.

I think that it's telling that Canelo is favored in this fight. THAT is how obvious the edge he has over the judges. The guys not even fought as a true MW and he's favored over one of the greatest legit MWs ever?

Agreed. Especially if Canelo honored the IBF's day of weigh in limit like GGG did. Ah, i'm already pissed off about the decision of this fight because i know it's going to be a corrupt ending.

Jacobs would've beaten Canelo. THat's a no-brainer. Horrific, horrific stylistic matchup.

Agreed - Canelo would have nothing more than a puncher's chance. Jacobs' height and reach advantages would be huge, but more importantly he proved his chin in the GGG fight and he would have a massive footspeed and mobility edge over the ginger Mexican. Jacobs by late stoppage or lopsided decision (which would probably be scored a majority decision).

He won't have a chance to hear final scores, as Canelo's corner will say "no mas".

While I agree that Jacobs would have defeated GingerHead that night, too many people discount the Mexican's talents when relegating him to only a puncher's chance. Certainly, GingerHead has the power to hurt Jacobs but he is also a very talented boxer.

I cannot see it being a whitewash. GingerHead would be competitive (unless Jacobs caught him cold early and finished him). I definitely think that he would win a minimum of three rounds legitimately and possibly 5.

In other words, Jacobs would likely need to KTFO GingerHead to get the win, similar to the situation tomorrow night, or score multiple KDs.

Correct. Jacobs is very underrated. He got a crazy ko ratio and was prime against ggg

Canelo would've been crawling if he made the contract IBF rehydration weight like GGG did while Jacobs blew up to gigantic proportions.
