Tony Bellew says a rematch with David Haye could still be on the cards – but he’s refusing to deal with his old foe.

In a thrilling encounter, Bellew stunned the boxing world with a shock 11th round victory over Haye on March 4 this year.

The Hayemaker ruptured his Achilles in the sixth round but bravely battled on for a further five.

Bellew’s trainer David Coldwell confirmed last week that talks are taking place between the two camps regarding another clash.

Bellew, however, says he can’t be in the same room as the 36-year-old Bermondsey brawler. “There’s still things that are being discussed,” Bellew told Starsport. “I don’t really do the discussions with him because I just think he’s a plant pot.

“I can’t be sitting at a table with him or be anywhere near him. I know people think we get on great because of how we embraced after the last fight, but the embrace was purely because he’d just secured my family’s future. I still think he’s a plonker and I don’t think he’s a nice fella. If it happens, it happens.”

Haye was widely expected to beat Bellew, 34, before the March showpiece.

But his sixth-round injury effectively made victory impossible.

Bellew says he’s keen to face a fully-fit Haye to prove once and for all that he’s the better fighter.

He added: “I want to prove people wrong again, as I still think I’ll be a massive underdog. People will always make the excuse that I only beat him because he had a sore Achilles. His exact words were: ‘I will drill you to the floor within a few rounds.’ Well, David was physically fine for five rounds. The only thing that got drilled was my fist into his mouth.”

Haye was spotted at the GQ awards last week socialising with Anthony Joshua.

The 27-year-old defeated heavyweight legend Wladimir Klitschko in April and will now face Kubrat Pulev on October 28 in Cardiff.

Haye admitted he fancies facing Joshua, but Bellew says he’s dreaming. “He would go to the opening of an envelope. He will go absolutely anywhere," said Bellew who was speaking to celebrate the launch of Papa John's new Deep Crust pizza.

“What’s he doing at the GQ awards? All he’s done is get spanked by me. He just can’t give up the limelight. He’s saying things to get attention, of course he’s having a laugh. I can’t live with the likes of Anthony Joshua. He’s too big, too strong and too good.

“David’s the same height as me with basically the same frame. The only thing is he carries a bit more muscle."

He kinda would need to. Bellew looked second best against a near shot Haye. Up until the injury when Haye started dancing around, Bellew was no were near winning the fight.

Also, I believe the Achiles was no excuse. Not once did Haye mention it in the post fight, when we all clearly saw that was the reason as to why he ultimately lost the fight.

Bellew needs to re-visit his own words post fight. It was a little more than a hug... how many times did Bellew compliment Haye's ability post fight.

He does need to eliminate the Achilles thing, cos that effectively decided the fight, and Haye was about 4-1 at that point also.

If haye gets injured again and it ruins the fight it's unlucky but tough luck for Haye, Bellew would have to move on.

I don't buy the , I only hugged him cos he secured my families future, that's shite.

Imo haye needs to come in 10-15lb lighter, he was about 228 wasn't he? Get a bit more speed back and of course stay injury free.

Yes, way too big in his comeback. Have to say though in his last IFL interview he looked a lot less bulky already.

Yup. There was a lot of rumours. But Hearn did say, Haye cannot back out, or we wouldn't be able to fight in the UK anytime soon. I think that was to do with him backing off the Fury fights etc. Not some contractual thing

Yes, but despite looking terrible he was still beating Bellew clearly, and even after the injury flared up Bellew couldn't seem to hurt him. Even the knockdowns looked more down to the injury than any clean punches Bellew landed.

You're implying selling this would be difficult.

Haye is a well known name, and many will think (rightly or wrongly) that Bellew won because of the injury.

Bellew vs Clev 2 on PPV got more flak for happening, than this would.

My take

1. Haye is way past it
2. Haye came in too heavy
3. Haye was carrying an injury coming into the fight, which ended up blowing up

All 3 contributed to his bad performance. But he was still winning the fight before round 6

I think he didn't use the excuse because of the roasting he received after the toes fiasco against Klit

I was shocked how much he took without getting particularly buzzed. He wasn't finished when they stopped it either, it was a mercy stopping really due to the injury.

In fairness I had Haye winning the fight until his injury no small injury either so hardly an excuse
The same happened with junior Makubu he damaged his knee which needed surgery, both injuries are obviously of no result of Tony doing anything just misfortune for one and fortunate for the other

I had a Papa Johns once. The pizza was nice, but Papa was a bit stingy with his potato wedges. He must've only sent me about four or five.

Get challenged by Briggs, make him an offer he can't accept, he still accepted it anyway, then ducking Briggs anyway and fight a cruiserweight instead, then actually lose that fight as well anyway, then you act like it was only because of his achilles excuse, just like he did before with my toe hurts excuse, then refuse to accept the rematch while saying on the event that he would accept, then don't even accept the same terms as that cruiserweight accepted before and now saying he preferes to fight AJ?!

WTF is this idiot thinking, even the cruiserweight said AJ would be too much for him, let alone the bumfighter.

I think he just should man up and lose another match against this cruiserweight.
