Cwmbran middleweight Gary Lockett will face Michael Monaghan in Newport on Friday as the chief support for Enzo Maccarinelli v Jesper Kristiansen.
The announcement follows the withdrawal of Wayne Elcock with a knee injury and the failure to secure a visa for Zimbabwe's Farai Musiiwa.

Lockett defeated Monaghan on points in Cardiff last June.

The loss was heavily disputed by the Midlands-Irishman's camp so the rematch offers a chance to decide the issue.

Lockett, 27, remains on course for a shot at the WBU middleweight title, despite a string of frustrations with opponents.

I was at the first Lockett-Monaghan fight on the Calzaghe-Mitchell undercard and it was a shocking decision and it was not the only decision that went to home fighter (Davytan IMO beat Nathan King in all 4 rounds but lost the fight 40-36)

Just getting his weight ready for the weigh in tomorro.He's been dying for this chance and now he has it.

d- is Mick training in Sheffield now? (he used to box out of Nottingham as I remember)

Has this been made at middle or a catchment weight, Lockett will struggle to make it to 160lb i hope Michael gets a fair desicion the last fight was a farse, Lockett can bang but when he gets him by anyone he cant hack it, Monaghan points for me.

Mick is living in Lincoln now,married wit kids!
So he gets his training at a local gym and then goes to Calzaghe for sparring when he has notice for fights.
I just manage him.

yeah was there also...and that Nathan King fight was shocking as you say Chambers. I thought Monaghan beat Lockett but not by that much, i didn't have as much problem with the decision as some....but Lockett was fortunate. A t that time, Lockett's confidence was completely shot. Recently he's got back into the habit of KOing opponents, so his confidence is back and he's been training for Elcock so he'll be in good shape. But Monaghan will come in thinking he beat Lockett the first time, so will believe he can win...and when Monaghan is up for a fight, he's a very live opponent.

I think Lockett wins. It will be a tough fight, but i think his power will wear Monaghan down and he'll stop him somewhere after the 6th.

Good final question there Adam, I too think this will have a significant bearing, if it is an 8 rounder it is quite possible that Monaghan will cling on at the end and maybe get the nod. If its a 10 rounder I can see Lockett getting to him before the end.

Very intriguing contest, I still have my doubts as to whether Locketts recent form is the sign of a change, or if its due to opponents. Monaghan has done okay since the Lockett fight, so this will see if Lockett has truly improved.

Thinking on it though (and another reason for me to sit on the fence). It was Monoghan who was finishing the stronger the last time, there are some definate doubts about Lockett's stamina.

If you look at Locketts record since the russian beet him its crap, he's been fighting stiffs, to be honest i think Monaghan will walk through him, Lockett marks up really bad, Thats why i would have put money on Elcock getting a stoppage, Lockett can punch but he seems to be limited as a boxer(rather than a puncher), If Monaghan hits him back Lockett does'nt seem to know what to do, He beat Matt Galer who's been out for two years, and Kuato or whatever his name is, If Lockett makes the weight i will be shocked.

Mick wants the longer duration fights.So with this being over ten,feels it will suit him more.He's waited for his chance and knows he has to take it.

Spot on. His stamina really is questionable. He's struggled, badly in some cases, every time one of his fights goes longer than five or six rounds. Add that to the fact that he appears to have no real back-up plan for those times when he can't blast out the guy in front of him, and there's another defeat waiting for him.

Monaghan deserves the rematch, Lockett was at least honest enough to accept the fortunate decision for what it was, i just have a feeling Lockett will beat him this time but he does mark up easily these days and if Monaghan can box and move and frustrate Lockett he can win this fight.
