Ruslan Provodnikov

One of my favourite fighters currently - are we likely to see him resume his career, and if so, who should be his next opponent?

I'm a huge fan of Provo. He seems like he's just about had it as a fighter, but if he is to continue I wouldn't mind seeing him work over somebody like a Mike Alvarado.

Provo vs Victor Ortiz might be interesting. Or Provo vs Brandon Rios of course is can't miss.

I honestly don't know if it's worth it though. He took a hell of a beating against Matthysse, and to get outboxed by John Molina the way he did suggests he just don't got it anymore because it's not like Molina is a master boxer by any stretch.

I wouldn't match him right now unless it were against against other fighters who are on the downside of their career, and have been known to be action fighters in the past.

Is Juan Diaz still continuing his comeback? Juan Diaz vs Provo could be interesting.

He already battered Alvarado. I'd like to see him return at 147.

Unusually for me, i remember that fight pretty clearly & Alvarado nearly through the ropes (infact JMM nearly pit him through the ropes too). His 2nd best performance behind Bradley, a fight he would have won by 1st round KO if not for the ref.

Eh what can I say, after a while it all gets a bit hazy keeping up with all these fights and fighters.

In April, BS ran this article: Ruslan Provodnikov is Now Ready To Resume His Career. Basically saying his heart wasn't in it against Molina, but he's staying ready. Kind of a bad sign that 5 more months have passed and he still has nothing scheduled.

I'm inclined to think that in his next fight, he will probably be worse than he was for the Molina fight. If so, and if they were looking to immediately match him in a 50/50 fight without a tune-up first, I'd probably put him in a crossroads fight with Ricky Burns or let him test the somewhat untested Sergey Lipinets (who is currently fighting TBA in November. Let Provodnikov be that TBA).

Ricky Burns is already kinda in a crossroads fight coming up against Anthony Crolla

Would he even be able to make 140 after such a long break? I wouldn't mind see him as a warm-up opponent for Crawford at 147.

Did The Provoglodyte take your daughter's virginity? Screw your wife? Beat up on you when you were young?

What else could possibly lead you to suggest such a horid beating for him?

Dag nabbit. There are so many light welterweights with fights already scheduled. Impossible to immediately find an appropriate match-up for Provodnikov.

He needs motivation. Who else will for sure motivate him? I don't think he is so much worse than Indongo to warrant your comment.

Why not bring back the 147lb version of Hearns for him? Crawford? lmao, he'd be better off in front of a firing squad.

The Indongo earned his shot, owned a belt, and he has not taken the kind of sustained beatings that The Provoglodyte has. Also, The Indongo went down without being beaten into the bloody pulp that The Provoglodyte would be turned into by Hitman Jr.

I didn't say he could beat Crawford, but he could put a good performance. Crawford didn't destroy Pistol, so he is not a firing squad.

It would be worse than a firing squad. Hitman Jr would beat the remaining brain cells out of him.

A better, more competitive fight for him would be Felix Diaz. That would be a two way war.

Diaz won't motivate him. He needs a name or a title fight.

Then he should retire. Diaz v The Provoglodyte would be a great fight.

I think that's what is gonna happen.

Has to fight a severely hand picked opponent from here on out. Wouldn't be a bad addition to an undercard against an equally limited brawler, but today's undercards aren't about entertainment value.

Gamboa could, but Provo can't? Have you built a Crawford temple yet?

No temple required for the obvious.
