Sanchez on Canelo: I Thought He Don't F*** Around? He Ran!

Abel Sanchez, trainer for IBF, IBO, WBA, WBC middleweight champion Gennady 'GGG' Golovkin (37-0-1, 33 KOs), is not letting Canelo Alvarez (49-1-2, 34 KOs) off the hook for last Saturday night.

Sanchez respects Canelo as a fighter, but he doesn't respect the way he fought during some of the rounds last weekend.

The veteran trainer feels strongly that Canelo failed to make good on his pre-fight comments - including the infamous statement of 'Mexicans don't f*** around' - which Canelo stated last year as a warning to Golovkin.

Canelo also vowed to make a big splash at 160-pounds by knocking Golovkin out.

According to Sanchez, he saw nothing but running from Canelo for at least six to seven rounds in the fight. And he says Canelo's fight strategy was the reason why the sold-out crowd had vowed their displeasure at the end of the contest.

"Canelo is a good fighter. He showed that he belongs there with the middleweights. But what I did see, and it was a displeasure from the fans. When you say that you're going to do something... What was that saying he said.. that 'Mexicans don't [f***] around.' And he talked all of this crap before the fight that he was going to knock [Golovkin] out - and then all he did was run for six or seven rounds. That's why the Mexicans were booing him. That's why his fans were booing him. The draw doesn't take away from that. They know who won," Sanchez said.

Hard to argue with that imo.

No shame in not standing to trade with Golovkin, would have been madness. But Canelo did lose the fight.

It's because he said prior to the fight, that he would stand and trade

I dont think Canelo was running. He was backfoot in maybe 3/4 of the fight, but still able go to exchanges and effective counterpunches and nice bodywork. It was not good enough to defeat GGG. IMO Alvarez boxing style is very attractive

Why do they feel they need to say that, just say i'm going to outbox him if thats what you plan to do.

Good question, no idea. I guess it's just not considered as intimidating? Plus I suppose it would be giving away your intended tactics?

Sanchez should look at his own ability as trainer instead of whinging about Canelo's tactics. Golovkin looked crude and out of ideas at times.

..Canelo certainly redefined my perception of what the notorious "mexican style" is like ;-)

Not for nothing but is Canelo supposed to give away his game plan before the fight to his competitor? Canelo did it the only way he could make it 12 rounds to hear that awful decision. He had to run because if he didn't, he would have taken 30-40 percent more punches and he wouldn't have made it. No shot.

This is another reason why I feel Canelo was in on the fix. It didn't even appear to me that he was trying to win the rounds. He did try going for the knockout on several occasions and landed a couple shots that normally put people away but GGG just kept coming. Other than that, his strategy was to just get to the end because he already knew he couldn't lose.

I know. I couldn't believe that honestly. Mexican fans are intelligent and they see what's going on with this guy and these scores.

The funny part is that if Canelo lost a close decision, he would have come out better in EVERYONE's eyes. Think about it...he fought so hard and I have to give him credit for doing what he did. He's got the rematch clause in the event of a loss. The fans would be coming out of the woodwork to back him for the rematch and should he win? He's bigger than anyone's ever imagined.

Golden Boy is really screwing up this guys career. From vacating the belts and running from GGG...to the bogus decision that they most likely paid for. The kid would own Mexico by now if they just let him be.
