Andre Ward retires from boxing

Just seen that Ward has announced his retirement due to not being able to put up with the rigours of training.
Fair play to him, very good career, a lock for the HoF and his money and marbles intact.

That means he'll leave horses p4p rankings in 2022.

As good as he is and as I can't help but see his career as a bit meh! Boring to watch, dirty, first fight with Kovalev got a controversial win, second was a controversial stoppage (although he was boxing well and I think he'd have went on to win). I don't blame him for retiring as there's not really much else out there for him after Kovalev! The sport will not miss him that's for sure.

Pretty much sums it up for me.
Good luck to him. Glad he's gone. Dull bloke dull fighter.
Have a happy healthy retirement.

I believe he wanted to be like his idol, Freddie Flintoff, and retire undefeated.

He won't be undefeated if he comes back and takes on Rio 'the Rock' Ferdinand

Can't say I'm too bothered tbh
Just a play-it-safe rough-houser

Could see the threat coming from Yarde?
Did not miss him when he was out of the ring for that two and a half years, won't miss him now. Throws open everything around 175 now obviously. Belt scramble time.
What is odd that I am sure Hearn said in an IFL interview last week that Buglioni had been offered a Ward fight in the last couple weeks. Something does not quite compute here.

Can't say I'm sad to see him go. Can't think of a Ward fight that I actually enjoyed.
A few young lions coming through and if his body can't cope with it, the right time to get out. He can't even move up to fight the best cruiserweight, as I'd expect Usyk to do a number on him.

He's not that old, he has time to change his mind.

He'll be back - just mulling of his options I think.
GGG and Bellew look to be tied up.

I am gutted to see him retire. Had the lot. 2nd fight against kola was convincing and showed he had power. Think he would of beat GGG and Adonis just too slick and too good and always found a way to win. Shame those two fights didn't happen

Running scared of Kovalev.
Looks like he retires with the last 3 shots he threw being right on the balls.

Kovalev ball hooks aside, supremely talented fighter and a real gentleman outside the ring as far as I can gather. I hope he does come back for a fight but if not, best of luck and happiness to Andre Ward.

Fantastic fighter, unfairly derided.
Cleaned up a quality SMW division and then took on probably the at the time most feared fighter in the world who was a naturally bigger man, beat him once in a very close fight and then had the balls (pun intended) to take him on again.
Fought all comers and beat em all. What's not to like ?
Pound to a penny he'll be back though.

Sadly his style was awful to watch. I rate his talent. He made front look very ordinary, which is no mean feat, and got past kovakev despite being well physically outgunned. He has nothing left to prove and is probably getting out at the right time; though i suspect he will be back for one more big fight.

Oh come on. How is he running scared. He fought the guy in a rematch already. The shots were mostly borderline, kovakev wanted out.

Yeah I’m sure Ward was terrified of a man who he made quit like a bitch.

Kind of early but he made 14 million so he don't need to be fighting.
