2017 has already been one of the best years for the sport in decades. We still have a couple huge fights left to go but who do you have as your fighter of the year so far? It's a tougher call than i thought it would be.

I can't pick who it should be but I can say definitely who it shouldn't be.

GGG - No, Jacobs fight was debatable, as with Canelo - no legitimate claim
Loma - No, again beating Sosa & Marriaga don't cut it - no legitimate claim
Canelo - same reason as GGG - no outstanding win - no legitimate claim
Joshua - Great fight Vs Klitschko but going life & death with a 41 year doesn't win you fighter of the year - no legitimate claim

Ward - Beat a monster twice in Kovalev who no-one wanted to touch (Contender)
Rungvisal - Beat a potential ATG twice, the second time convincingly (Contender)
Crawford - Unified the 4 belts (Contender)
Spence - Announced himself on the world stage beating a very good champion in his own backyard (Fringe Contender)

Crawford for me.

Too early.

Ward-Kov 1 was in 2016. Not to mention Kovalev clearly won.

Golovkin's win over Canelo is more conclusive than Ward's nut-shot finish over Kovalev. Factor in a close win over Jacobs, nobody comes close to those 2 calibre of wins.

I stand corrected over Ward vs Kov 1. But Kovalev clearly winning when he freely admitted there was nothing in the tank after 6 rounds? It was a close decision either way. As for the nut-shot. He bullied the bully and the bully quit. It was a conclusive a finish as you can possibly get.

But since we are talking in facts, GGGs "2 wins" as you put it was officially 1 win and a draw. Both disputed. Hardly FOTY 2017 form is it?

My vote would go to Hitman Jr if it was cast today.

His 2 wins over Roman top any of them.
Too many qyestions over the outcomes of the 2 really big fights
Crawford would be second. Beat the best in his weight class to prove himself no 1 but the quality of opposition wasn't p4p top 5 quality, Roman was.

Rungvisai may not match some of these names in a p4p sense but his achievements for the year are unrivalled

It is disputable, because we are here discussing it. There would have been no debate if he had knocked both out like he had done with his previous 20 odd victims - but he didn't.

It wasn't a stellar year for him. Except it and move on.

Accept what exactly? He beat Jacobs which is fact, and he beat Canelo according to pretty much everybody who knows anything about boxing.

Over a 11 year professional boxing career 2017 is the only year so far GGG has failed to register a tko/ko.

He had two fights. 1 win & 1 draw.

Plenty of fans questioned his "wins" in both fights.

These are the facts.

Now - with the above truths layed out in black and white. Do you still think he deserves 2017 fighter of the year?

If anything, 2017 will be remembered as the year GGG showed his age and started to look human.

Still more than 3 months to go in the year. Everything will depend on the December fights.

Questionable outcomes and no mention of the first decision over Roman? He didn't win that fight.

I have not any dilemma. Crawford's unification at LWW is the greatest achievement this year. I prefer HW and i enjoy much more watching Joshua than TC. I admit that competition at LWW is not the strongest possible, and 2018 might be very difficult for Crawford at WW, but for this year he ought to be undisputed #1.

So 2 of the 3 judges didn't side conclusively with GGG - so both are corrupt because they didn't agree with you?

The 114-114 scorecard was entirely justifiable. As was the 115-114 scored for GGG. What don't you understand about it being a close fight

You will never be able to score a fight as a neutral as you obviously only see one side of the coin. I see a close fight. As did 2 of the 3 judges. But it wasn't a great fight for GGG as Canelo was smarter, took GGGs best shot flush & shook his head & wobbled GGG in one of the later rounds.

Not a FOTY 2017 performance anyway you look at it.

GGG victories are best - Jacobs and Canelo, but it was a close fights. Crawford dominates oponents and became undisputed world champion, hell of an achievement. For now i am with Crawford in this, but if Lomachenko can defeat Rigondeaux convincingly, he will be fighter of year

Trella's 114-114 wasn't feesible as he awarded 10-9 to Canelo in r7. It's not up for debate, Golovkin won, the bogus dec has cost a judge her job.

Id agree with that

It's too early there's fights still to come.

It's a shame golovkin had the Canelo result taken from him. He should be a shoe in for me otherwise
