how many fights does the average boxer have been getting a shot at the title?

I would say 15,I like boxers doing the traditional route area title,English,probs fight for a British title eliminater,then British.

Between 12-15 but like stuarty says it depends what you got don't it

depends on the weight i reckon or quality in their division , shows you how strong boxing is at the mo if 15 fights only leads to a british fight , i would say if you are really good 10 fights british, 20 european, 25 world .

So far in 2017 there have been 14 British title fights involving 18 challengers for the title (4 vacant). In total, the challengers have had a total of 353 fights, i.e. an average of 19.6 . The range was 10 (Charlie Edwards) to 34 (Josh Wale).

By comparison, 50 years ago (1967) there were 9 British title fights throughout the whole year. In total, the 11 challengers (2 vacant) had had 426 prior fights, i.e. an average of 38.7. The range was from 23 (Derek Richards and Brian McCaffrey) to 76 (Wally Swift).

You can draw your own conclusions but I would say that far too many British Champions vacate their titles these days (some claiming that they have moved beyond British title level, when they don't even rate in the top 5 in the Country) meaning titles are devalued. How does Hughie Fury deserve a shot at the World (even if it is only the WBO) title when he is only rated no.5 in Britain?

His surname is Fury. Having the same name as a famous famimly member is as good a reason as you get these days.

Boxing doesn't even pretend to be a sport any more.

To answer the OP's question, I'd say 15 is about right for a British title shot.

Obviously, it's going to vary fighter to fighter, but I think after 10 seems a bit early. Your first 10 fights should be your learning / adapting to the pro game fights.
