Eddie Hearn and Matchroom Boxing delighted to announce their first American signing as Daniel Jacobs pens a multi-fight deal as part of Matchroom Boxing’s new venture in the US.

The former Middleweight World ruler will make his debut under the new banner in November live on HBO as ‘The Miracle Man’ aims to reclaim his World champion status.

“I'm truly excited to be joining Matchroom Boxing and HBO,” said Jacobs. “This is a new beginning for my career and I get a chance to showcase my skills to the world. I can't wait to return to the ring in November, being active and recapturing the World middleweight title.”

“It's an honour to welcome Daniel Jacobs to the Matchroom Boxing team and to join forces with HBO boxing to showcase his fights,” said promoter Eddie Hearn. “I believe Daniel has proved himself as the top Middleweight in World boxing and has one of the most inspirational stories you will ever see in the sport which must be told. We plan on keeping Danny nice and busy kicking off in November, then back in the spring with the obvious target of the Canelo vs GGG winner.

“This signing marks the first of many in the US market as we look forward to building on our success in the UK, raising fighters’ activities levels and profiles and providing fans with atmosphere and drama from this great sport.”

“Inspiring and electric in the ring, Daniel Jacobs is a true ambassador for boxing,” says Peter Nelson, executive vice president, HBO Sports.

“Daniel is a force to be reckoned with in the stacked Middleweight division. We look forward to watching to his exceptionally bright future unfold as part of the HBO family.”

According to Dan Rafael, the deal was done behind Haymons back..

Very smart move for Jacobs career. Not sure of all the dynamics with Al, but that could end up in court.

Good for HBO, they probably need this type of thing since they lost Arum..

Kinda bummed just because this means the Charlo fight is less likely now.

As if it was likely before.

Al Haymon is isn't a promoter and Matchroom Promotions have previously promoted Al Haymon fighters, such as Lee Selby and James DeGale.

What is really significant is the fact that Al Haymon actually negotiated a deal with HBO.

A future Golovkin-Jacobs rematch now seems to be a certainty.

Yeh read as well. Haymon will still advise Javobs.. Nice of Haymon, to know he's still trying to get his fighters $$.. and after HBO banned him.

HBO might have had to reconsider their stance on Haymon, due to GBP, Main Events and K2 not really having a decent stable of fighters.

The talent pool amongst those promoters is rather shallow... and the few big names they do have... are either on the cusp of retirement or have been recently defeated.

Haymon also has far too many fighters within his stable and not enough PBC dates to keep them all busy.

An alliance between Haymon and HBO may be a very reluctant marriage of convenience.

I expect more Haymon fighters to join HBO's ranks now that the Jacobs' precedence has been set.

Some people from this forum may not be able to appreciate how significant it is for Haymon and HBO to be working together again.

Yup, especially since Top Rank has parted ways.

Not to mention Al has made ruins of pbc. Let's not make a saint out of him, he's still getting paid. That's why I was surprised when you said it was done behind his back.

Jacobs, his manager and an ESPN article all state that Haymon either approved or was actively involved with Jacobs-HBO deal.

I don't know if Jacobs decision to work with Matchroom "behind Haymon's back" is even an issue, since Eddie Hearn has been affiliated to a few Haymon fighters for years.

With Matchroom now operating in the US, I won't be surprised if Hearn adds more PBC/Haymon guys to their stable.

I personally doubt whether Al Haymon would be even bothered about one of his fighters switching from one promoter that he works with to another that he also works with.

My question is who is on the horizon as potential opponents for jacobs?

I guess since matchroom is an en promotion, saunders, eubank jr, groves. Assuming jacibs is willing to fight in 2 divisions.

He will be fighting Luis Arias (18-0, 9 KOs) on November 11 at Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Uniondale, New York.

He will not be on the Wilder vs. Ortiz undercard

If you'd read the first sentence in the article Jip, you'd realise that Matchroom is now operating in the US.

So whilst it's possible for Jacobs to consider certain English fighters as future opponents, Eddie Hearn isn't going to try to sell exclusively British fighters to an American audience, especially if HBO have to sanction the bouts that Danny is involved in.

What's likely to happen, is that Hearn will add more American-based fighters' to his stable and also work with other promoters that also operate in the US.

Hearn has previously worked with Haymon, De La Hoya, Loeffler, Duva and (I think) Arum in recent years.

Jip... and for the record, Eubank Jr., Saunders and Groves aren't affiliated to Matchroom. Why doesn't a self-proclaimed "expert" know this?

Read the article Jip and consider your question before posting it.

Is this true?

Rafael has made it his duty to undermine Harmon and the PBC,
while praising everything his new masters say and do.
I mean no significant media criticism of fights like Canelo/Khan and GGG/Brook.
He isn't a journalist, and has less integrity than 99% of other sports reporters.

Possibly because he's an easy bribe.
Agrees to everything when ordering dessert.
Don't even need the briefcase.
Yuck, I just insulted a public figure, whatever it was media.

That makes more sense. Al is the greatest manager ever, he's just the worst 'promoter' ever.

Al Haymon is not a promoter, so your criticism is irrelevant.

It's like someone criticising me for not being fluent in the language of Ayapaneco.

Haymon has puppet promoters. He is the one making, or rather NOT making fights.

That was proven in court to not be the case. In fact, the polar opposite of your claim was proven during Oscar De La Hoya's lawsuit against Haymon, when evidence was cited and even corroborated by multiple parties that it was GBP and HBO that both refused to do business with the PBC chief, subsequently causing lots of bouts NOT to be made.

At a very high-level, Haymon may be considered a strong influence over the TV networks, promoters and fighters that he does business with, but not to the point that he breaches the federal law that is supposed to protect the welfare of boxers (i.e. The Muhammad Ali Boxing Reform Act).

No one has been able to provide any evidence or filed any lawsuit that justifies the merit of your accusation! No one! It has never been done!

Main Events, Golden Boy Promotions and Top Rank all tried and failed!

If Oscar De La Hoya is really a "good guy", why does he still employ a racist PR director that was proven to have sent multiple racist emails during GBP's failed lawsuit against Haymon?

Why do you support HBO, when they have stopped investing in the sport and they actively prevented several big fights from happening, due to their flat-refusal to work with Haymon?

Is your hatred of a person who doesn’t communicate to the media, so none of us know who Al Haymon is or what his personality is like, so severe that you actually support a TV network that actively prevented big fights from happening and also a promoter that employs racists?

Is it GBP, Arum, HBO, KGB who block fights between top Haymon fighters?
