Gary Lockett had to strip naked to make the weight for his fight with Michael Monaghan, Lockett has always struggled to make light middle but should have got his self ready for this one, I think if Monaghan gets him past 4 rounds he'll win, I still think the reason he pulled out against Elcock the first time was more a weight issue than an injury i think he (Lockett) is really dead at the weight and should be at super middle.

When he first moved up from Light Middleweight to supposed Middleweight he was often coming in around Super Middleweight i heard, so this struggle is no surprise. His main weapon at LM was his power, he doesn't seem to have retained it at the higher weight but has developed a worrying cuts problem, i just don't know what is left for him now at ANY weight :(

I hope it works out he comes across as a very nice fella and honest.

When a fighter struggles like Lockett did to make the Light Middle limit, usually moving up one weight class isn't enough. They usually feel more comfortable when they move up two devisions.

Look at the recent examples, Eric Morales (only a year a featherweight), Shane Mosely - skipped Lightwelter all together. Felix Trinidad (okay, mainly for financial gain, but there was plenty of superfights ahead at Light Middle). Again, Floyd Mayweather didn't stay around to long at Lightweight.

These guys had a titantic struggle to make their old championship weight - they are probably walking around at 3 weight categories above the level. I don't expect Lockett to stay at Middle for too much longer, unless his dietary pattern was poor before and could do with improving.

I think we'll see him at 168 soon enough maybe that will be good for him.

Lockett has come in at between163- 168 for most of his recent fights, he apparently struggles like hell to make 160lb, i've seen him a few times and he always looks very heavy for a middle weight, he looks more like a light heavy around the face and stomach, he does cut up and mark really easily and if he's weight drained he'll struggle tonight, Its a shame Elcock is injured as i believe Elcock would have jabbed his head off, Monaghan should beat Lockett if he goes into the second half of the fight.

any news on rees? i heard he was i trouble last time.

Thought Lockett looked impressive on Friday night and wasn't done any favours with such a premature stoppage. Would now love to see him fight Elcock in a decent match up. He deserves his chance.

I thought he showed a lot more fight, especialy out of the ring.
The honesty he showed after the 1st Monaghan fight was refreshing, but It's about time he showed some attitude and ambition.

Although his "I want the big fights....Farnell, Elcock" rant shows he is realistic about what his level is.

Hardly great names to chase are they....how long until we have a British title equivalent of the Inter-Continental!

I'd like to see Lockett v Elcock and Farnell etc, but its sad that a fighter sits on ring aprons after three years of SKY coverage, at 27 years of age, and plenty of hype to tell us he's still hopefull of landing a fight with the number 3 or 4 middlweight in the UK.

Both of whom have been exposed badly within the same level of opposition.

I once thought Locket the 154lb fighter was the pick of the 2001 division - how wrong can you be.

Maybe you're right. Maybe the loss helped him take stock, go away and try and learn a varied approach (which he had never done in his 'learning fights' as he was KO'ing all before him) and now we are starting to see the new approach bear fruit. I hope so too as he's always conducted himself with a bit of class, unlike some of his peer (and weight) group.

I love watcing Lockett and have followed him since he was 18, but that stoppage was far too soon in my opinion and Monaghan can consider himself hard done by. The guy wanted to fight and give the fans some value.

I share some your dissapointment in Lockett calling out Elcock and Farnell and describing them as "big fights". It's just the Sportsnetwork British middleweight title they're contesting.

Locket should get in the REAL British middleweight title shake up and zoom in on Bendall or Dann. Lockett is honest and realistic enough to know the worth of a real title and would probably benefit from getting his hands on one.

I did'nt here him call out Elcock, just Farnell (who he would beat in a round), and Monty (who is smacked up and banned) I dont think he wants a piece of Elcock IMO, I think Elcock would jab his head off and tuck up, they all know Lockett can bang, but does'nt like being on the back foot, Lockett has had a few fights since Yuri beat him and looks alot better but because of who he's with (promotion wise) the WBU is all he can wish for

Yup, that's how I remember it.
He said he would 'love' to fight elcock, acknowledged it was his fault the first fight didn't go through, talked about his knee still not being 100%, and hoped it could be re-arranged.
(hoped the fight could be re-arranged, not the knee).

I was also a bit merry, but i still think the way Lockett was talking he knows he'll struggle with Elcock, What worries me with Lockett is that he's been training for 8 weeks plus and still struggled to make 160lb, this is one on the main reasons fighters who have a pail complexion cut and mark up easliy, Lockett looked marked up before he got in the ring, I do like lockett he comes across as a nice lad but if (by a miracle they step him up i think he'll end up in trouble again)

Lockett would beat Farnell easily. And I think he has a very good chance against Elcock, I doubt his punch resistance will be the same after Murphy seperated him from his senses.

If Lockett finds 160 impossible to make, I dont like the look of his chances in the 168lb division.

I dunno Brian Magee has dones reasonably well at 168...
