Who was the best heavyweight with the best inside game?

I chose Joe in the p4p list, so this was a no brainer

It's sort of like Roy Jones, had he retired after Ruiz, he would have the greatest granite chin of all time.

In Wilt's case we have to include him in chin catagory...(NEVER KO"D or off his feat and never defeated) And best "inside" fighter, I have viewed his entire boxing career, and can confidently report that he never made a single error on the inside. A perfect record.

Jack Dempsey may have been the best infighter in Heavyweight History pound for pound... He ripped out much bigger top contender Fred Fulton in 18 seconds... Dempsey destroyed huge Carl Morris with a solar plexus shot 50 seconds in.. Dempsey was the only man to floor Gene Tunney in over 80 fights -- got Tunney on the ropes with an inside flurry as he was falling and Gene looked finished.. Dempsey was the first man to floor 2nd rated Heavyweight Contender Bill Brennan in his career of 68 fights to that point.. Dempsey was 23 and at his best. He floored the bigger Brennan 6 times with inside fury and finished him. Dempsey is the only man ever to KO Billy Miske in his 53 pro fights. He was a great body banger from film that survives.

Dempsey's most celebrated win was his devastation of huge Jess Willard when he won the Heavyweight Title -- but since he said punching Willard was as easy as hitting the side of a barn with a hurled pine cone, he probably should have finished him faster than 3.. He didn't do Jess's ribs any good.. Ditto his face.

Floyd had more experience and more skills than Sonny had -- but he was getting murdered every second of their 2 fights -- because the match-up was IMPOSSIBLE for Patterson from a size and strength aspect.

Ali refused to fight Paul Bunyan as well...for the same reasons.

But Kalan has a point, Wilt and Paul had arms so long that it rendered an inside game irrelevant.

Now as far as Paul Bunyan is concerned, it was demonstrated publically on many occasions that he had a "telephone pole jab" which he used to KO telephone poles AND mighty standing Oaks in a single shot....(He even brought down the entire Midwest electric grid on one occasion...with a single playful jab to a high tension wire pole) .......and of course he used his "murderous straight right" to KO Babe (his blue ox) at a party where they were both getting entirely too rowdy. But I can't remember any documented accounts of Wilt's equivalent arsenal.

Perhaps Kalan will share with us the stories where he witnessed first hand, Wilt USING these obviously well documented attributes. Otherwise, I'm sure he wouldn't be mentioning them.

I don't see the evidence pointing toward him being young.....he demonstrates an awful lot of info, and has remarkably set in stone opinions for being a youth.

I used to work in a mental hospital and there wasn't a single resident who was crazy enough to think that. Even the guy that though he was driving an invisible bus wasn't that crackers.

As far as Wilt USING these obviously well documented attributes???? ... What planet have you been living on???? Chamberlain picked up volleyball in a matter of weeks and was already playing at a world level due mainly to his athletic ability and NOT his skills or experience.. He was a champion sprinter and high jumper.. He was a strategic thinker.. When 3 or 4 guys were guarding him he found his way to the basket.

He's the only man who ever scored 100 points in an NBA game... The opposing team was hanging on him and pounding him so much he scored a record number of free throws in that game as well... He also holds the NBA record for pulling down 55 rebounds in 1 game -- and he did it to Bill Russell and the Boston Celtics.. and he led the NBA in assists a couple times and led the entire NBA MANY times in minutes played because of his natural endurance.. He never got tired -- even dominating both ends of court and being the main focus of the other team.. Chamberlain said scoring a lot of assists was often very easy for him -- because when you're double and triple teamed that leaves teammates open.

Most guys over 7 feet tall are so slow, ponderous, and awkward they can't get out of their own way... You have no idea... Chamberlain was unique in the sense that he had outstanding speed, strength, and coordination for anybody -- not just for a man of his size.
