Watched a documentary on sky last 6 months or so... was about how he lost his first few fights and was scared in the ring and managed to turn it round with hard work an changing his mindset. I found it highly motivational and really enjoyable to watch. Can't find a link anywhere to watch it on internet and would really love to watch it again? If any one could put a link up would be much appreciated.

Yep, I was never his biggest fan but the way he turned his career round was inspirational. He deserves credit for that as does Brendan Ingle.

Id like to watch it if there is a link out there.

Think i watched that,didnt Brendan Ingle say Johnny was the best fighter he created because he didnt really have much talent so what he had was from what Brendan had give him.

Nelson after he finished has become over appreciated imo. Sure he defended his title in the end a lot of times, but wasn’t the WBO not recognised for most his reign. He truly stank out the place in the worst way ever times before.

However for personal achievement of overcoming your nervous demons etc it’s a credit to him what he could go on to do

It was recognised, this was 1999 onwards, you are saying Eubank was not a champion, VItali and Wlad the first times around or Dariusz Michalczewski who all held the title then or earlier from memory, oh and Hearns at Super Middle many many years earlier.

That’s fine if I’ve got the date wrong, but the early years of the WBO it wasn’t a recognised world title. The WBA, WBC and IBF didn’t recognise the WBO. If all this is prior to Nelson then he’s a legitimate alphabet holder for sure

Nelson held the WBO when the WBF and WBU were in full swing so he was a real king. His book is a really good read too, it's very honest. It's better to read or hear about his fights than it was to watch them

I watched the De Leon fight live on TV, all time and space seemed to stop and I was hypnotized into a trance by this repetitive dance they both did ! bloody hard and frustrating fight to watch was that and I've still got the fecking thing on VHS somewhere !

Did they show the Akinwnde fight?

Haven't seen this doc but saw a bit of a Q&A thing he did with AJ for Sky the other day. In and amongst all of Joshua's usual stuff (didn't know Eddie Futch ffs), Johnny said something which I thought was quite interesting. He said that these days he sees fighters doing these long runs with their headphones in, but he preferred to run with no music as it was better for conditioning your mind for being able to concentrate for longer periods of time when all you could hear and feel was the aches and pains in your body, rather than being able to distract yourself with music, which you can't do in a fight. Only a little thing but found it quite interesting. He gets a bit of stick but I think he's actually quite insightful when he's not suited and booted and giving us the usual Sky Sports spiel - clearly has a really good understanding of the mental side of the sport.

that de leon fight has to be one of the worst of all time.

but he did have good scraps with watts and sellers.

I liked his comments about him being a product of the gym. Showed some humility. He's a bit of a penis on Sky though!

I read his autobiography a few years ago and it was a great read and a bit different from the normal autos you read involoving fighters or hard men types

I also seen the docu on Sky that the OP is referring to and it was enjoyable, I remember Nelson breaking down crying out of the blue when he was describing how his knee went whilst in the gym, that was the moment he realised his career was over, it was pretty sad to listen to, I rarely agree with Neslon regarding fights but he's got a good soul has Johnny

I'm sure it was signed yeah. I remember they were ready to go and Nelson got injured. Maybe I'm wrong but I'm sure that was the case
