Sounds like ref incompetence
Out on his feet and not defending himself, Murray shipped a number of clean shots from Gallagher, at one stage turning his back in disorientation.

With what remained of the crowd screaming for the fight to be stopped, referee Terry O’Connor, somehow, did not intervene until Murray finally hit the canvas, banging his head and being left unmoving.

O’Connor initially ruled it a slip – and then began counting, before waving the fight off after 5.

Boxing Asylum said that apparently Gallagher shouted at the ref to stop it before he hurt Murray. I have not seen it so no idea if true.

Such a sad situation - I know fingers get pointed, but in the first instance I just hope the lad recovers.

I hope this ref hasn't cost this man his life, but it sounds like his boxing career will be in tatters, very sad to see. Hope he recovers to live a full, happy life.

Gary Murray is one of those lads who just loves his boxing career. I believe he started at the Barn ABC in Coatbridge where the sparring was always tough.
Murray is totally committed and a nice , decent boy. He gets the best out of himself at all times. I think he might have a good job away from boxing.
He's a decent boxer, doing nothing special, lacks a punch, but has a lot of offer in the bravery department. I hope he has 6 months off and gives it another go if he really wants to. Deserves all he gets from the game.

Hi, I'm the author of that report and also guested on Boxing Asylum last night.

Has been confirmed that Murray underwent surgery on Saturday morning and is currently in an induced coma. Can only assume and hope that he never boxes again.

Thoughts are with the guy, his family, and Paddy Gallagher at this time.

I don't understand your comments??? " Are you for real WOW WOW " ???

If it was a reference to Gary fighting again, I made those comments before anyone had mentioned he underwent surgery. Obviously he won't now be fighting again.

Fair comment and apologies, I knew he was in a coma and didn't realise the report I linked didn't mention it. Again sorry pal.
