This would be a fun fight for as long as it lasted. I really don't envision this one going the distance.

A fight at middleweight.

Who you got?

The diminutive (as in physically small - not short) Felix Trinidad was never a genuine middleweight and the only legitimate world-rated 160lb-er he managed to gain some measure of success against, was William Joppy, who himself was very small by the divisions typical standards.

Meanwhile, Gennady Golovkin has never competed below his middleweight comfort zone for more than 15 years, despite his previous boasts about being able to dominate fighters weighing between 154lbs to 175lbs. He simply hasn’t proven his ability to justify these bold claims. So we can't consider this bout being competed at anything other than 160lbs.

In a middleweight contest, Golovkin stops the Puerto Rican within five very one-sided rounds.

It’s not a fair match-up!

If you’re going to propose a fantasy fight, why not pit Golovkin against genuine 160lb-ers like Sugar Ray Robinson, Carlos Monzon, Marvin Hagler, Roy Jones Jr., Mike McCallum, James Toney or Bernard Hopkins?

I'm shocked Fergus gave a take instead of sobbing about, and reporting, this thread being in the wrong forum.

At Middleweight it's Golovkin all day.

Tito is 3-2 as a Middleweight. His wins came against Mayorga, Hacine Cherifi and William Joppy. GGG would be miles ahead of those guys, and I think would be too physically strong for Tito at this weight.

On top of that I think GGG has a bit more versatility to his game, and could outbox Tito aside from being the bigger and stronger man. So basically I think GGG could beat Tito just about any way he chose to go about fighting this fight, but I figure he'd box carefully so as to minimize Tito's chances of landing a lights out left hook.

Golovkin dismantles Trinidad. He goes no more than 8/9 rounds.

I agree with everyone above that GGG is an easy winner... A better fight would be Willie Monroe vs Tito Trinidad... Could the slick boxing Willie, who has already failed in 2 World Title Fights (his uncle never got a crack at a world title) be able to out-slick Tito, which I suspect would happen---or would he be walked down and punched out??? If Tito cold trap you like he did Joppy, he could unload the ammo wagon.

People forget that Tito, 40-0, was ranked P4P number 1 in the world -- and was a solid favorite to beat Bernard Hopkins.. Seems like yesterday.

I agree he had a better career, but I don't see him winning a head to head matchup at Middleweight.

No way does Tito win this, it'd take a huge punching natural middleweight to trouble Golovkin's chin and Trinidad wouldn't outbox him for a decision. Golovkin mid to late stoppage.

Trinidad had a chin, so hed take a brutal amount of punishment and his corner would throw it in, rd 10 2 mins 34 seconds.

I’m a big Trinidad fan but no way would he beat GGG at 160.
His best chance would be to persuade GGG to move to 154. It’d be more competitive then.

I agree with the majority here that Tito's only chance would be luring GGG down to 154lb. Tito's greatest asset is his punching power - he may hit hard enough to get GGG's respect, but he's not going to seriously hurt him and definitely not going to stop him.

They are virtually the same height (officially Trinidad half an inch taller), while Tito has the longer reach, though GGG is definitely the naturally larger, heavier man - it would be a natural middleweight vs a blown-up welterweight.

If Hopkins was able to put Tito down, then GGG would keep him down. He isn't the master boxer that BHop is, but he has underrated boxing skills, including a better jab than Trinidad which would be an important weapon. I see this fight being somewhat like the GGG-Brook fight, except with GGG showing a bit more respect for Trinidad's power. Tito would win some rounds and look good in parts, but he won't have the defensive skills to keep GGG off him and would ultimately succumb to a barrage of power punches, with the stoppage coming somewhere in the mid-to-late rounds.

This one always gets me.
Trinidad looked like a monster versus Joppy, who was typically sturdy against bigger men.
But then he looked like a lightweight against Hopkins and Wright.

Joppy only have one weird fight below middleweight, early in his career, probably an error.

Hopkins wasn't GGG. But Hopkins was a power puncher at 160.
He wasn't called the Executioner because he was landing 10 punches a round. He used to stop most of his opponents.
The difference in Hopkins to GGG power isn't as vast as you think.

However, I don't think Trinidad had the chin to war with GGG, which is the only way he could fight.
But, a couple of those Tito low blows could have discouraged GGG's aggression.
