Lara has had trouble securing big fights since losing a split decision to Canelo Alvarez in 2014. WBA "regular" super welterweight Demetrius Andrade is the exception and is one of the only guy to call out the Cuban.

"I am very interested in this fight. It is in my sights. He is going to get his wish soon. He can talk to Al Haymon after my next fight and we can make it happen," Lara told BS.com.

The 34-year-old Cuban lives and trains in Houston, Texas under the guidance of world class trainer Ronnie Shields. Even though he was busy in training camp, Lara helped his community in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey. He said that after his fight concludes that he will try to get even more involved in the relief effort.

"For me it was an honor to help out. the people who need help and give back to the community. I just want Houston to know they will bounce back and once I get through this fight I want to get more involved because right now I am focused on the fight," Lara stated.

As for what the fans watching the fight can expect, he said that he plans on putting on a spectacular performance.

"I plan on showing another great fight and another title defense. I will give them the best of me and put on a show for the fans," said Lara.

They should have fought over 3 years ago.. It's a hard pick for me.. Even if it did take place 3 years ago, I would be undecided.. Andrade has some serious skill, but he hasn't shown he can perform against the best, simply because he hasn't fought the best.

They're not going to be fighting.

I seem to believe (due to various reasons) Demetrius Andrade previously turned down opportunities to fight Matt Korobov, Erislandy Lara and Jermell Charlo.

I don't know if the reasons for his refusal to participate in fights against those names were entirely justified or not, but I'm pretty confident he rejected opportunities to compete against those guys regardless.

Andrade is fighting in hbo at 160 now. He only fights once a year. Pretty much a non entity. Though the abject failure of the pbc could open up more of these fights that seem impossible.

I've looked back at some of my old notes...

Demetrius Andrade has never earned anywhere near $300K for a fight and yet he preferred to receive a cheque from Roc Nation instead of accepting a career-high payday for the Jermell Charlo fight.

Erislandy Lara claimed that Demetrius Andrade had previously turned down an ESPN2 fight with him. Lara also claimed that Andrade reneged on a signed contract to face Jermell Charlo. And ESPN's Dan Rafael claims that Andrade also turned down a three-fight deal with Showtime.

Demetrius Andrade petitioned the WBO to get the middleweight title shot against Matt Korobov. However, Andrade subsequently announced his intention to stay at junior middleweight (to continue engaging in non-title bouts), which made room for Andy Lee to challenge for the vacant title in his place.

I don't know why he would. 160 is hbo, 154 is Showtime.

Hypothetically I’d take Lara close decision

Andrade is one of the stupidest people in boxing and that is saying alot.

Great match up with an interesting clash of styles.
My initial thought was Lara edges it with a very cagey performance.
But Andrade can be very flashy and a bit gung ho, Lara might be able to set traps for him and get him to walk onto one.

Andrade needs to make himself significant once again, but it isn't going to be against Lara. Lara had a chance to fight him but chose to fight some other guy that is not well known. If they fight, which I doubt, Andrade by decision.
