Andrade: I Hope Golovkin Finds The Balls To Fight Me Next!

Assuming all goes well in his full-fledged middleweight debut next week, Demetrius Andrade would love to challenge Gennady Golovkin in his following fight.

“I don’t think that’s something they would wanna do, just because they wanna fight Canelo again,” Andrade told BS.com. “If we fight and I beat him, then there’s no more Triple-G and Canelo fight. But I wish that happens. I hope that happens. You know what I’m saying? I hope Triple-G finds the balls to fight Demetrius Andrade in his next fight, in the beginning of next year. That’d be great. I would take it. Go ask him that question.”

Golovkin, 35, has expressed interest in boxing once against another opponent before Alvarez returns to the ring that night. Facing a tall, skilled southpaw such as Andrade might not make the most sense for Golovkin, but the 29-year-old Andrade is hopeful he can land meaningful middleweight fights next year.

Most of the sport’s top middleweights either have exclusive contracts to fight on HBO or regularly appear on the network. Those fighters include Alvarez, Golovkin, and former champions Daniel Jacobs (32-2, 29 KOs) and David Lemieux (38-3, 33 KOs).

Andrade agreed recently to a three-fight deal to have his bouts broadcast by HBO. The first fight of that agreement will take place October 21, when Andrade (24-0, 16 KOs) will face Alantez Fox (23-0-1, 11 KOs) in a 10-round fight that’ll open a “Boxing After Dark” telecast from Turning Stone Resort Casino in Verona, New York.

If Andrade wins, the Providence, Rhode Island, native is open to boxing any of the aforementioned middleweights early next year.
“That’s definitely the path I could go towards and them fights should be made,” Andrade said. “Those are the popular fighters in the 160-pound weight division. I’m looking to be the best and so I wanna put my talents against the best. I don’t feel like they’re the best superstars out there. I feel that’s me, so I’m willing to put my talents to the test against them. If they’re willing to do the same is the question.”

Why is Demetrius Andrade referring to himself in the third person when he says that he “hopes Triple-G finds the balls to fight Demetrius Andrade in his next fight, in the beginning of next year”?

If I ever met anyone like that in my social circle, I’d almost certainly give them a wide berth!

Why would GGG face someone like Demetrius Andrade, who has: never competed at 160lbs; only fights once per year against unheralded opponents; doesn’t possess any “valuable” titles; whose name carries no prestige; whilst bringing absolutely no money to the table?

I realise that Demetrius Andrade carries a lofty reputation amongst hard-core boxing aficionados, but his reluctance to accept opportunities to engage in big fights against marquee names, strongly suggests that he’s either got self-destructive tendencies or he possesses absolutely no business acumen whatsoever! :o

Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson used to talk in 3rd person when he was wrestling full time.

Unless Andrade starts being active, and making himself valuable no big name fighter has any real reason to fight him. At least Lara is TALKING about him. He should go for him because he ain't even on GGG's radar screen. GGG has much bigger fish to fry than Andrade.

He didn't even fight Korobov for the vacant WBO MW title when he had an opportunity.

Andrade dominating the giant MW. Just not impressed though. Andrade v Jacobs would be interesting.

Andrade is very very skilled. You’re nuts if you don’t see his talent.

Zab Judah also had talent. The difference is that Judah wasn't ducking.

Iknow 30 million reasons why a rematch with canelomakes more sense.

Balls, does andrade has balls fighting a dangerous opponent? Ggg already proved he got balls boxing lemieaux and jacobs. Who is andrade. He should shut up and fight real opponents and than think about big name opponents. Right now he did 0

I give Andrade credit for trying to get big fights. Lara wouldn't fight him at 154, or anyone else that is a top name. Andrade got mistakenly labeled a ducker when Jermall Charlo's team made an offer, but on 3 weeks notice if I remember right in December of 2015. Andrade signed to fight him the next month in January, and Charlo refused, fighting Vanes M. instead.

He is a very skilled fighter, tall, and a southpaw to boot. I think either Charlo would be a good fight, and think he would be very competitive against anyone at 160 or 154. He has a big mouth and is cocky, true. Canelo could have fought him when he had the 154 belt, but didn't. Canelo jumped at the chance to fight Smith though, who got the belt after Andrade was stripped. Must be a reason why.

There must be a reason why Andade hasn't fought anybody of note after beating Vanes.

Right now Andrade brings nothing to the table apart from a potential L. I think Golovkin and Jacobs beat him but he's probably competitive with most others at 160.

If he wants the big fights he needs to make himself too hard to ignore. When Golovkin wanted the top names at Middleweight he relentlessly destroyed decent fighters 3/4 times a year. Andrade is inactive in comparison, this is the first time he's fought twice in a year since 2013. And he didn't even look good against Culcay. If he can't get the top names he should just keep busy against Curtis Stevens, Tureano Johnson, Willie Monroe Jr (might be boring fight tbf), Jorge Sebastian Heiland, Hugo Centeno Jr etc. Nothing pisses me off more than inactive fighters.

Andrade spent like a year and a half with absolute tunnel vision focused on jack culcay.

His team said they would try to get the Jacobs fight, one they said they definitely would take. That would get some people's attention if he won.

Max couldn't have said it any better after the fight on HBO. He was hoping that after Andrade's performance, the results would be enough to say "you know, Andrade belongs in the GGG/Canelo class". But the fight was boring and Andrade didn't even come close to knocking him out or exciting the crowd. Andrade garners no fanbase so there's zero attractiveness to believe that Andrade has a big fight coming anytime soon. Charlo vs. Andrade is what they will have to do because no one's going to fight those two until they make a bigger name for themselves.
