Is Jimmy Carrothers no longer recognized as having been a world champion?
According to his Boxrec entry his two fights with Vic Toweel are now only recognized as Commonwealth title fights, not world title fights.

Am I missing something here? Anton? Anyone?

Why does Boxrec no longer record it that way?

Enter that same page without logging in using your poster name and password and see what you get.
It instead just shows the Carrothers-Toweel fights as being for the Commonwealth title.
Very misleading.

World title is not in the system, therefore acknowledged manually. FYI, 1st bantamweight title was held in New York, Jan 31,1890 Tommy Kelly defeated Chappie Moran on pts over 10 , according to The Hamlyn Encyclopedia of Boxing. But not so according to Boxrec

....and still made weight
For what it's worth Carruther's manager had been warned Jimmy's food could be tainted as a form of sabotage before the bout with Toweel.

I thought he had the tapeworm before his fight with Pappy Gault? Retired undefeated but came back as most fighters do.

The tapeworm was indeed found after his bout with Gault, but I have read an article where Carruther's manager was warned about the possibility of his food being sabotaged en root to south Africa. It didn't become 30ft overnight. Read it a few years ago now.... Will try to find the article and post it.

Great fighter. Definitely an argument to be in the top 5 of Australia’s best. Taking nothing away from some of our other champions, I would have Jimmy up there.

Agree with you there fox
This was the type of article i had come across....
Best later said McConnell was mistaken with the advice he had given them... it might have caused a bit of a hoo-ha over there as McConnell later retracted the comment and Carruthers manager then began saying Jimmy had contracted the tapeworm eating raw beef at one of the islands en route to South Africa....

Interesting read. Seems strange that they would go to that extreme to get an edge.
