There are plenty of names on Jack's list of potential opponents at the new weight.

One of those names is former unified champion Sergey Kovalev (30-2-1, 26 KOs), who returns to the ring in November against Vyacheslav Shabranskyy (19-1) in New York City.

During a tour of the Middle East, Jack was recently asked about who he wants to fight at the moment - and WBC champion Adonis Stevenson is at the top of his list. But Kovalev may be coming in at second.

"Adonis obviously. Maybe someone we don’t like. A racist fighter? A scumbag, Kovalev has made some racist comments so maybe him," Jack told Sport 360.

Several fighters at 175 - like Jean Pascal, Andre Ward and Stevenson - have accused Kovalev of making statements that were racial in nature. But the Russian boxer has always denied their allegations, stating that he simply made jokes that were misinterpreted.

Despite his accomplishments in the last few years, Jack believes that he's still being overlooked and not widely viewed as one of the best fighters out there.

“I like it that they’re overlooking me still. That means there is no pressure on me when I step in the ring,” Jack says. “People will realise that I’m the real deal. I’ve fought five world champions in a row; Dirrell, George Groves – he wasn’t a champion when we fought but he is now – Lucian Bute was a former world champ, DeGale is a world champion and an Olympic gold medallist, and Cleverly was a two-time champion.

“I fought them back-to-back, not even the superstars, Triple G (Gennady Golovkin) or Canelo (Saul Alvarez), have fought the calibre I have back-to-back like that. I’m going to continue like that.”

I'd love to see him fight Kovalev. If Kovalev hasn't suffered a massive psychological setback as a result of the Ward fights he should kick Badou Jack's ass.

I too think so long as kovalev is at his best he puts it on jack

Jack is a great counter puncher, that would be a great fight. 50/50

My instinctive response is it's closer than was being assumed above. Jack at a minimum goes the distance and takes 4 Rounds off Kovalev and him doing discernibly better than that wouldn't surprise me at all

@saad I just rewatched some of Jack-Groves. I understated the fvck out of Jack even after that fight, where he was excellent. I must have been focussing on Groves that night because I'm looking at Jacks skills right now and sort of 'woah'. Fvcking polished fighter with some talent and gifts and proven 12rd stamina and really good defence. I had him way wrong.

Really nice fight too by the way. I must have been clattered that night, didn't remember it as being that good either. Ffs

Jack can hit to the body too, especially with the right, and he's good at working angles with his head to make it a low risk shot when he slams it in. We know Kov doesn't like it down there

Kovalev has proven he can't take it to the body, and now people question his mental make up the way he acts. Wouldn't call him a lock over anyone good now. He is still dangerous but not the monster he was billed as.

Good to see some Jack respect. He’s a very good all round fighter. It’s an interesting match up between him and Kovalev....need to ponder that one. It would be competitive though.

I agree... I always liked Jack because he's a damned good boxer... But Kovalev would knock him out.. He might call Cleverly a 2-time World Champion, but the man is a 3rd rate boxer.. I wouldn't feel too pound of beating him in a cheap setup fight.. Cleverly is about as easy to hit as Jess Willard..

Those other 4 "World Champions" Jack beat are better than Cleverly -- but they all certainly lack stellar boxing skills and are wide open.

I think he's top 10 p4p. The best word I could use to describe him is tight.

Jack is pretty much good at everything in the ring, kovalev has more weaknesses, but he also has bigger strengths as well. If kovalev isn’t at his best then this is a tough fight and I wouldn’t bank on him. If he is though I don’t see jack taking the power and I’m pretty happy kovalev would land at some point

Yea I agree with this. Kovalev is a good enough boxer to land and he generally lands big. However....as you say, Ward may have ruined him mentally and he may have a real weakness to the body more than the norm, he was dropped by ggg to the body in sparring its confirmed. In terms of his stamina issue, fighting Ward is so tireing for any fighter, both mental and physical, as it involves as much wrestling as mma although he did slow against the chilemba. I hope Kovalev isn’t broken, I hope he’s training as hard as possible. I’m not saying he didn’t train as hard as possible for the 1st fight or even the second I just don’t think boxing conditioning is enough when fighting Ward and Kovalev should have known that after the first.

It was a bit long-winded, I agree, but I know my comment would be read by a certain die-hard Kovalev fan that accuses me of lying, whilst getting my evidence deleted by the forum moderators.

If I submitted proof of Kovalev's racist behaviour, it would only end up getting deleted anyway and I may also receive a ban, hence the reason why I asked you to use two minutes of your precious time to Google it rather than ask others to perform this trivial task for you.
