I think Saoul Mamby has, 1969-2008 so a 39 year gap.

If you count bareknuckle, possibly Jem Mace.

Not the longest but Harry Simon is still fighting and unbeaten ...

What about Yory Boy Campas. I know he’s not the longest, he is amazing though.

Len Wickwar fought for 19 years and 470 fights - winning 340... His longest winning streak was 23 and 19 of those opponents had winning records.. His longest losing streak was 5.. He suffered 37 KO losses and won 93 fights by KO.. He lost 6 years of his career to World War 2, and only fought 4 fights following it.

I think he meant length of career (longest), not the most fights.

Kid Azteca - 1929-1961 32 years. Mamby still seems to be the longest. I think Baby Vasquez was around 25 years. But the thing was with Azteca and Vasquez was that their careers was fought over consecutive years with no breaks, which is far more amazing.

There have been professional fighters who fought in their 60's or 70's... There've been obscure fighters who fought well over 40 or 50 years but maybe not that many fights... I'm in my 70's and am sure I could beat some "pros" who are in their 30's because they're so damned pathetic.. They're only there to provide comic relief when matched against each other -- and serve as walk over foes for multitudes of boxers who want to pad their records with bullcrap opponents.

Kenny Lane fought from 1953 to his last fight in '85 for another one of 32 years, but with a 17 year gap. To tell you the truth, Kid Azteca is by far the most impressive over Mamby, Bugner and Lane because he fought in 32 consecutive years.

Right... The number of years and total fights at a high level are what make guys like Archie Moore so impressive. Taking time off allows nagging injuries to heal. If something's wrong with a joint, a foot, a hand, legs, back, neck, years of rest work those injuries out somehow. A boxer told me he didn't run for the last 6 years of his boxing career because his groin would kill him after 2 or 3 steps. But after 10 years of retirement he sprinted across a street in Paris to beat traffic without thinking about it and suddenly realized what he'd done and that nothing hurt. If you never suffer any injuries you can just keep going forever, but most people aren't that fortunate.

This is a contact sport where most of the injuries don't involve the contact. You sprain a ankle, tear a muscle, rip a ligament, pull a tendon, strain your back, or an elbow starts killing you. Some guys workout everyday for the rest of their lives to stay in shape. If chin-ups, pull-ups, sit-ups, squats, or whatever exercise hurts you, you leave that out of your routine and eventually that area heals, even if it takes years. If you're in training for a fight you're forced to push through the injuries and tend to aggravate them.

Joe Bugner's career spanned a fair old time: 1967-1999.

Great shout Mercs, Bugner literally spanned the ages.....the ultimate journeyman Peter Buckley fought almost non-stop from 1989 through to 2008, no timeouts for Peter and the small matter of 300 fights and meeting every decent low-weight fighter to have come out of the UK/Europe in the last three decades

I'm sure I read about boxers in old England who fought into their 60's and 70's. I don't see why they couldn't if they lowered the level of their comp.

Sorry, but we are talking about Pro Careers. Mamby's ended when he was 40, Rourke's lasted 3 years.

Mamby's career didn't end when he was 40... He fought in 2008 which makes in over 60... Almost 61 since he was born in 1947.

I'm not talking about how long Rourke fought... He looked decrepit at 62 in a sanctioned pro fight... I suspect he paid his opponent to can the fight... It sure as Hell looked suspicious as if his opponent was embarrassed to be doing what he was doing -- but he wouldn't disclose the sum he was paid in cash by Rourke... I would think the IRS would be interested and contact him -- since bribes and other illegally acquired income is taxable.
