IBF, WBA, IBO heavyweight world champion Anthony Joshua (19-0, 19 KOs) revealed that he immediately requested a rematch with Dillian Whyte in the wake of Kubrat Pulev's withdrawal from their scheduled fight on October 28 in Cardiff.

Pulev with ultimately replaced by Carlos Takam (35-3-1, 27 KOs) on twelve days notice.

Joshua felt that a rematch with Whyte would have generated instant fireworks for the expected crowd of over 70,000 in Principality.

"Dillian was the first person I asked to fight in Cardiff, because the two people who brought the best out of me entertainment-wise were Dillian and Klitschko," Joshua told Nick Parkinson.

"Klitschko, I was buzzing for a rematch because of the type of fight it was, it was great. Dillian, the same reason, it was just a buzz, everyone had a good time. Let's look back at certain careers -- if you can pick memorable nights Dillian would be one and Klitschko would be one.

Out of my career there should be four or five memorable nights and we've already ticked off two."

I'd rather see Takam vs. Joshua to be honest.

I know we'll see the Whyte rematch again, but it's going to come with an extra build up (not that it's really needed)..

Takam is a better opponent.

I was thinking the same thing.. if he's going to fight another 5-10 years.. he wants 3 more stand-out fights?

I'm sure there will be plenty.

All Great HW's have way more than 5 memorable nights..

Takam is much better than Whyte.

I don't know why there's call for a rematch with AJ. Whyte had one good round. In a rematch, Joshua would destroy him in 5 rounds.

Name me 5 names, I can't think of many who can give AJ a hard time within 5 years.
Ortiz, Povetkin could have done, but appearantly didn't have a chance yet, all the others are probably easy wins for AJ.

Maybe because he plans to bulldose through 7 or 8 of his next 10 opponents

there's a good chance the Parker and possibly the Wilder fights might not be memorable for their action in the ring.

I agree.. But I think AJ will be cautious against Whyte.. not that I think he needs to..

Carlos Takam is the better opponent in my opinion.
Plus even if Joshua had fought Whyte instead he would still have his IBF mandatory to take care of. So fighting Takam gets that out of the way.
It looks like Whyte is pursuing the WBC route anyway. If he beats Helenius and becomes the WBC 'Silver' champion he will be in line for a fight against Wilder.
No doubt Eddie Hearn would be hoping Whyte could win the WBC title and set up a Joshua-Whyte mega unification contest.
Either way, Joshua v Whyte II will happen somewhere down the line.

To be clear, I don’t give a rats arse what comes out of his media trained mouth. He’s so boring and predictable nothing of interest comes from that chasm.

Doesn't take 2 to make a memorable nihht.. also why do you keep mentioning Povetkin and Ortiz? They're not the only big names out there.. 5 years is a long time..he could have a memorable night with anyone.

I'm in a position where I'm hoping Dillian fights and beats Wilder, but the ensuing rematch I'm not too hyped for. Wilder vs AJ would be more intriguing than AJ/Whyte 2. Really, Joshua should blow him away.
