Should Joshua be allowed to train at the GB boxing headquarters?

Should Joshua be allowed to train at the GB boxing headquarters a part Government funded facility? Essentially he is using (part) tax payers money to train. He is also a multi-millionaire. If you were chosen to fight him today you would have all that was on offer that your coach had access to or your wallet could afford. Whereas Joshua has access to the top facilities without paying for it and its use is not meant for professional athletes.

I understand McCracken is his coach, yes I get that but should he be allowed to use those facilities? Is Rob not taking advantage of his position? Is it fair on other British fighters who have fought him who have had to train from their spit and saw dust gyms. I'm sure they would love to have a camp with state of the art facilities, why should they not get access to it?

Your thoughts?

Why not? His trainers involved in the setup and he's a gold medalist so it makes sense. I'm sure he contributes financially as well.

My understanding he doesn't pay for the use of the facilities. I could be wrong, if so please enlighten me.

I'm not sure tbh mate I was just making an assumption. He comes across quite a generous guy so I'd be surprised if he didn't contribute in some way but maybe I'm wrong :maybe:

This is not a question of generosity or anything personal to AJ. If they are renting it out to Joshua then fair enough but its not common knowledge that boxers can rent these facilities and he is not doing this. The point I'm saying is probably more against Rob and taking advantage of his position perhaps?

It must be a boost for the lads to train alongside him, and for most of them, knock him out.
All jokes aside, I know a few who train down there now and again with different England teams and they love been around him. He seems comfortable there.

i think to get rob on board they allowed him 1 pro boxer (froch)

he retired then it was announced Josh was his new boxer

Joshua pretended Simms was his coach for first 10 or so fights

I don't see an issue with it but I think other, British world level fighters should be allowed to use the facilities free of charge.

Keep Britain at the top of boxing by giving our world champions/title challengers the best facilities possible.

Its funded by the UK Sports which also gets a Government contribution. That's the point of this thread. Tax payers have a vested interest in it so why should a millionaire professional boxer have access and not other boxers? Is Rob abusing his position? Is it fair on other boxers from GB who may fight AJ?

Yeah I'd agree there. Must be great motivation to look over and see the world heavyweight champion going through his paces when you're training as an amateur.

Probably suits McCracken to train him there as well though as he works for both. I wouldn't really have a problem with him taking advantage of his position tbh.

Is it really that different to any gym? I mean what is in a gym? A ring or 2, a few different bags, a couple of timers etc.

Does he access anything else whilst up there?

Joshua is the king of England so let him train where he wants. He is an inspiration for all the team gb and it's a dream having him around the place for all the boxers. Only jealous people giving out about this

And Fury isn't an inspiration? He's had a far superior win to aj under much more difficult circumstances. So should him and Hughie be allowed to train there?? AJ setting up a training camp where the facilities/overhead are footed by our tax $ just does not sit right.

Thats not the context of this thread. yes he is an inspiration, great to have around etc I agree. Who wouldn't want to train alongside him if you were an amateur or a pro for that matter. BUT the point of this thread is why should he have free access to the tax funded gym. He even owns his own gym FFS so why not pay for everyone to come to him rather than use the Amateur GB squad facilities. One could even argue he is putting wear and tear on all the equipment there which needs replacing eventually if you want to get pedantic about it. Is it fair? Why not let Dilian be based up there with Mark Tibbs for a big training camp?

Yes, accommodation, nutritionists, physios, sports psychologists etc. All at the top of their field.

It's probably not 100% fair, but I have a rule..
Whenever you find yourself saying, "but it's the principle of the thing!" like you seem to be doing here ? Stop and let it go - it''s nearly always you being petty about something that isn't really a big deal.

Ha good point, will remember that one :TU: I'm all for equality though and fairness.
