Adalaide Byrd Back, Worked Mayweather Promotion Card

Less than two weeks ago, the executive director of the Nevada Athletic Commission, Bob Bennett, denied reports that controversial boxing judge Adalaide Byrd was under some form of suspension. (photos by Erik Verduzco)
In fact, Bennett made it clear that Byrd would expected "back soon."
Bennett was not kidding, as Byrd made her return last Saturday night at Sam's Town Hotel & Gambling Hall in Las Vegas, where she worked the Mayweather Promotions card that was topped by Sharife Bogere. She worked at least two fights, including Cameron Kreal's bout with Shoki Sakai, which she scored a draw.

of course shes back. comissions pretty much do nothing about bad judging. even the window dressing lip service is as half assed as it comes. they're all friends.

To paraphrase Billy Bragg,
While we expect decency and fairness
They're laughing in our face
And although our complaints get louder
Their laughter gets louder still
Above the sound of bank registers clashing

So what?
Bad scorecards are a dime a dozen in boxing. If you suspended every judge who ever turned in a dubious scorecard, there would be no one left.
But to me it's odd how there's always an unending uproar when a female judge renders a controversial score. We're talking Byrd, C.J. Ross, Eugenia Williams.
A male turns in a suspect card, and the media and public grumble for a night and then move on.
A woman does the same thing and the finger pointing goes on and on ad nauseam.
It strikes me as a sexist attack.
Let her judge.

it makes sense because byrd, ross, and williams turned in abominations in super high profile fights. i mean i think 114-114 in canelo-floyd and 118-110 in ggg-canelo are easily among the worst scores ever and everyone saw them.

I was very surprised how solid Byrd's history was.

Burnett vs. Haskins! That judge who got the boxers mixed up.. fight was originally announced as a split decision. But later overturned.. he got loads of stick too.. it's not just female judges

Of course. Boxing is so corrupt they don't even bother to hide it anymore. And when we're talking Nevada Boxing Commission we're really talking LasVegas Boxing Commission and when we're talking Las Vegas we're talking OC, Organized Crime.

Las Vegas has been in the grip of institutionalized corruption for so many decades now that it appears normal to them.
A young boxer coming up should steer well clear of that place until they've worked out how boxing works in and out of the ring. The top guys have a lot of leverage regarding referees, ring size, gloves, purse splits, drug testing etc etc. This is a very complicated game.
Possibly the most unfortunate judge selection was when Hagler's team vetoed Harry Gibbs (after the bad experience of the Minter fight, I guess) and got Jose Guerra for the Leonard fight. Guerra scored it 118 - 110 Leonard!?!
To rub salt into the wound Gibbs said he had Hagler winning.

I can’t endorse the opinions of those that have become absolutely, unequivocally convinced about Adalaide Byrd being corrupt, because there really isn’t any evidence to substantiate such a claim.
For sure, one or two of her scorecards may have been controversial in nature, but perhaps other factors contributed to her poor decision-making on those nights, such as: the environment at which she witnessed certain bouts; a lack of ability; or simply having a bad day at the office.
I’m not defending the woman; instead I’m simply refraining from automatically assuming the worst possible scenario.
I don’t believe that Adalaide Byrd deserves to lose her job over the scoring of the GGG-Canelo bout.
She’s already received an obscene amount of online abuse over this incident and was also temporarily suspended (either because she wanted to or was strongly “advised” to by the NSAC), which I feel should be considered as a fairly severe and more than adequate punishment for her so-called “crime”.
Adalaide has already agreed to step-down from ever scoring big fights again. So I feel that she has now become an irrelevant name on the boxing landscape, which means that there’s really no reason for others to persistently complain about her.

There are lots of incompetent judges. They work the club shows, so you don't hear about them. When a judge works on a PPV event, he or she has to realize that the scores are going to be scrutinized by the media and fans.
