Those two are no loss to Matchroom, not now they've gone.

Neither of them are that bigger draw for what they what to earn. I read somewhere DeGale is only on a fight by fight basis

Hearn didn't really invest in them..

DeGale shooted off to the US, where he became world champion, also linking with Al Haymon.. You'd never hear Hearn mention his name..

DeGale now knows, the money, especially in at the 168 division is in the UK..

He has two big potential fights. Groves rematch and a Eubank Jr. fight.

Fwank is doing alright, looks like he is building a bigger, better stable. Maybe some of the big new signings aren't locked down into a multi-year deal but Fwank owns his own TV channel which is pretty amazing really, hope it stays afloat with the injection from BT.

Eddie is fine as long as AJ stays loyal and keeps winning. He has staged non-Joshua PPV events this year with Brook and Bellew/Haye, but I think those days are over with. Possibly one more Bellew PPV next year if he repeats the win over Haye in Dec but I think a fully fit Haye will get revenge.

Both of them are with Al Haymon?

As I understand it, DeGale made more money for fighting in America. But now, he wants a few fights in England & Hearn couldn't pay him what he wanted becase all of the top domestic fighterd are tied up with the World Super Series - the likes of Eubank Jr, Groves & Calum Smith.

Hearn said Degale made a big mistake going to the states, I don't agree with that, I think his stock improved greatly.

Hearn's approach seems to be signing lots of fighters from a division as a priority - he loves a domestic dust up than can drum up the hype and potentially PPV. They are easy fights to make and they generate big interest and sales.

Callum Smith is currently out of action due to the WBSS - he would need to win that tournament (no gimmie) to become a potential rival (of PPV magnitude) for DeGale. Hearn doesn't have any other world class Super Middle on his books. So not surprised to see DeGale go, who can he fight in the short term to make Hearn money.

Selby is perhaps different because there is Quigg, but then that is really it in terms of short term "big" domestic fights. Selby vs Frampton was a natural Sky box office PPV main event, but Frampton didn't sign for Hearn.

Ricky v Kostya, Bruno v Tyson, Liam Smith v Canelo? Hamed fought loads of good men, so have loads of others.

South African ,all he wanted was enough money to buy a bottle shop (off license) back home .I was just getting at that Benn had as many easy fights as any British fighter

We've seen the same crew go full spak when news like this has broke before. When the Fury's supposedly signed it was gonna be Fr ank taking over the heavyweight division and having the Klitschko fight on allegedly, but what happened there? They then said that they had proved that PPV could be done on allegedly by failing to put a PPV on the channel because it was going to be such a financial disaster. Signing Hughie Fury at the same time as Tyson proved an invaluable asset tho didn't it? Fury v Kassi and then onto youtube PPV, it's the future guys, trust us.

The Selby aquisition will prove a strong asset due to having Frampton and Warrington. It makes complete sense for him to sign, altho I would be surprised if he is on more than a fight by fight deal as surely he has seen what happens when you sign a long term deal.

DeGale tho I can't for the life of me see what they are doing there. He'll cost a bomb and there's no obvious big money follow ups afterwards. If Groves or Eubank Jr win the WBSS they won't be free for a fight until next November and Eubank will be just as difficult to deal with, probably thinking they should be the promoters because they have put 'their own' shows on. Groves and DeGale will struggle to agree a split and I would expect that they will want guarantees and with an unproven product that will be very risky. I'd expect both to prefer the proven track record of Sky box office whether they like Eddie Hearn or not.


Mickey, tell us what your favourite fights were between 2001 and Hatton v Tszyu in 2005? I vividly (along with Autobarn) remember these dark days. Off the top of my head Arthur v Gomez and a few other British title fights were about the best we had in 4 years on Sky under that regime.

Probably Arthur-Gomez, too. You do know Matchroom promoted on Sky during that period,too, don't you?

Yeah their shows were horrendous back then. Possibly the worst of the bunch (Sports network, Hennessy, Hobson and Maloney were the others weren't they?). I'm trying to illustrate the point that I think boxing is far better now than it was then and put paid to this daft 'if someone else had Sky they'd be amazing' argument. Other promoters did have sky and did have box office back then, and it was mostly crap.

Eddie signs established fighters and Warren builds them up .

I think the (justified) "beef" people have with Hearn these days is twofold:

1. Any half decent fight is on PPV whether domestic or otherwise. He seems to have a different PPV fight on almost every month now and people are frankly getting sick and tired of it given how much Sky/Virgin costs already. Granted, FW has allegedly which is also a subscription channel but that only costs £12 a month and to be fair that is great value for money given the quality of fights that are on there. They have most of the big international fights and quite a few decent domestic ones also every month for much less than one PPV show.

2. Getting face value tickets for any of his decent shows is almost impossible as he instantly puts most of them on secondary sites like StubHub for vastly inflated prices. Matchroom do the same with other sports they control also like the darts and even the snooker for the big tournaments. This never ever used to happen when FW was the main man and I know that for a fact as I regularly went to huge events involving the likes of Hatton, Calzaghe, Haye/Maccarinelli and Hamed. Nowadays I don't even bother trying to buy tickets for a big Hearn show as it's almost impossible. The only one I've been to since Froch v Bute was the GGG v Brook fight where I managed to pick up tickets on the secondary market for near face value a few days before.

How many PPV fights have been on Sky this year? Two Joshua (including Takam), Mayweather McGregor, Haye Bellew, Brook Spence. Is that it?

Degale Jack and Frampton Santa Cruz II were standard Sky.

I have to agree with this. Can you imagine someone having someone with the talent of Calzaghe or Hatton and allowing them to get to 30-0 fighting the likes of Ashira/Mkrtchian/Salem/Pudwill.
