Bob Foster Vs Oscar Bonavena

Let's place it around 1971....or as close to a time line that might get as much good out of either fighter in real time as possible. So not necessarily at their mutual peaks.

I'm thinking around 71 or 72, but if you can make a case for a better year that's fine.

The reason I bring this up is because it may encapsulate a pretty good example of a debate that playing out in several threads.

One guy is a bit more mobile, better skilled and though smaller, might have more pop. Vs a tough galoot that showed some moxy against two great HW champs.

Ali was able to KO both of these guys. Frazier pretty much dominated them but only KO'd one of them.

If Bonavena could stand up to Frazier's shots, I think he could stand up to Foster's. Foster would trouble him early on with the jab, and the movement and all that, but I figure eventually Bonavena would get to him with his steady pressure, and stop him late.

It would be brutal while it lasted... Bonavena was 1/100th the boxer and technician the great Bob Foster was...but simply too big and strong for Bob.

Bonavena KO 7 -- but I would pay to see it.. I even paid to see Frazier-Foster and I knew the outcome.. Frazier took a couple savage head shots.

Oscar Bonavena would've been too big and too strong for the great Bob Foster. At 175lbs, Foster was a devastating puncher. But at heavyweight it would be another story. Bonavena was too rough and rugged and could take a good punch. The fight is over about the 4th or 5th round with a Bonavena win.

I strongly agree with you, Bonavena would've been too big and too strong for the great light heavyweight champion Bob Foster like Ali, Frazier, Terrell, Folley and Jones, who destroyed him at heavyweight. Other than Bonavena, Jerry Quarry and George Chuvalo would do the same to Bob Foster.

Bonavena would stop Foster in three rounds.
