Just watched an interview with the supposedly very talented Lerrone Richards, and can't help think people giving AJ's personality are being harsh, because this kid Lerrone is really boring. I think it's mainly down to him being shy which I don't mind, but still, it made me wonder about other fighters in British boxing who you can't hack personality wise. Mainly people so lacking in flavour, like Terry Flanagan.

Flanagan was the first to pop into my mind when I saw this thread. All he needs is an anorak and a train time table.

Dubiois as said above seems to be monotone and boring and another is Lawrence Okolie. Excruciating listening to an interviewer try to get something out of that lad. Funnily enough, I also had in my mind the AJ comparison and how well he speaks. Sure we say it is all an act, fake humble etc but at least the guy came talk

Those few who still prefer boxing over gossip will miss out on some great fighters due to the way the sport has gone in the internet age. Guys who are good on the mic but bring little else can make it when out and out killers with little to say get dropped by promoters. It's shite.

To an extent, yes. It's far worse now though.

To an extent, yes. It's far worse now though.

Who are the out and out killers/great fighters that people are missing out on due to the way the sport has gone?

There's far more access and information these days; nobody gets their news from a paper and a half hour news broadcast anymore. But it still seems the case that big character + exciting style = more well known.

since when did being loud and boorish equate to having a good personality ffs. I prefer low key guys with a dry quiet wit about them to obnoxious loudmouthed unoriginal braggarts. Froch when he was fighting was a good example of this.

I remember sky showing footage of Wilder screaming out booooomb squad in his answer to a question with his paid goons joining in. Cut back to the studio and adam smith saying to someone “what a fantastic character, great for boxing”.

I like George Groves. He's quite an articulate guy not an out an out extrovert but his confidence is probably the right side of arrogance.

Dubois is still only 20, think he’ll be a better talker/more confident when he gets a bit older and a few more fights behind him.

Yeah, I find the guys trying to rip off Mayweather like Broner to be even more boring tbh.

Guys like Crolla, Burns and Barker are my fav boxing personality. Just genuine good, likeable blokes. The sort of guy you'd go to the pub with and have a good night out.

I don't equate the brash, wreckless Whyte-types as "good personalities", rather an 'interesting personality'. As I said about Lerrone, he's conservative and shy and that is not a bad thing in many ways.

However it's fun to notice that he has zero profile in the sport, despite how highly regarded he is. I think you compare him to Ohara Davies, and you see the differences. One is this persona adopted by Ohara, two is the opportunity presented to Ohara by Matchroom on Sky.

I was thinking the other day that Frank could well have a two weight world champion by the end of the year that no one outside of boxing even knows of.
