Is Evander?

Many (if not most) boxing fans have ranked Evander Holyfield among the very top greatest heavyweight boxers of all time.
Do you think that Evander may be a bit overrated? If so, why?
Please explain.

I don’t think so. Remember he was the best cruiserweight ever before he stepped up to HW. He had two amazing careers.

The guy had a heart like Joe Frazier.....and skills that are hard to disrespect.
No quit in him, and intimidated by no one. Deserves props.

Depends on who you ask. I'd say he's underrated more often than he's overrated though.

If you're one of those fighters that are thought to be one of the 3 top warriors of all time that heart, will and determination was hard to match, then you cannot be overrated in any form. He was a true all time great, no matter how you look at it.

Holyfield was a great fighter but I don't think he's a top 5 heavyweight myself ,super exciting he's trilogy with bowe were as good as any but he also fought the ancient foreman and Holmes as well as getting wobbled badly by Bert copper then losing to Michael moorer ,his wins over Tyson are really his highlight of his career and he fought an amazing fight in the first fight and really fought a crazy fight standing in front of Tyson which was considered madness at the time..he did struggle with the big boys of bowe and Lennox Lewis that's why I don't have him as a top 5 heavyweight. But I'm a big fan

He should be a fixture in anyone’s top ten heavyweights. The guy fought some incredible fights and deserves his praise

Holyfield ducked Lennox Lewis for many years... and for GOOD reason -- the same reasons Bowe and Tyson ducked Lewis for many years.
The deal is...Holyfield losing twice to Ridiculous Bowe demonstrated how easily he could be overpowered by a great big, tall, strong, fast, athletic, and superbly skilled Heavyweight -- which Bowe wasn't particularly.. But Bowe was big and strong no matter how hittable he was -- so he beat Holyfield a couple times.. Holyfield fought out of a shell against Lewis and was only interested in surviving.. Promoter Don King fixed the judges and promised Holyfield he would win if he would last the distance and made a fight of it.. Lewis won the rematch by an easy Unanimous Decision..
I always knew that Holyfield and Tyson would have 2 fights with each other before either of them had 1 fight with Lewis... The same thing would have happened to Holyfield in spades if he ever faced anyone as big, fast, and skilled as Joshua or the Klitschko Bros.

In his prime, The Real Deal would have creamed Lennox Lewis, Vitali Klitschko and Anthony Joshua, no matter how big they were. None of the 3 were or are that impressive to begin with. None of the 3 had or have the heart, will and determination that Holyfield had.

Holyfield had tremendous heart no doubt but I'd suggest both he and Lewis were both slightly post prime when they met. Nothing suggests that the fights would have been any different a couple of years earlier.

Why should Holyfield be placed in anyone's top 10? He couldn't dominate his own era and lost a trilogy to Bowe. I don't see anyone putting Bowe in their top ten.

A top heavyweight in one of the best era despite not being big enough. Fought all the fighters, and got a lot of great wins.
I don't think he's overrated at all.

I agree with that... Holyfield should have beaten the crap out of Bowe if he were any good.. Bowe was one of the biggest and dumbest punching bags ever.. The lad couldn't even decimate Golota like Brewster, Lewis, and Tyson all did very quickly and every early... Even ploddingly slow Grant made Golota quit... But no, the Foul Pole beats the shiit out of Bowe and damn near ends his career and reproductive capacity. Holy promised to “make Bowe quit.” More like Holy quit.
Holy gets too much credit for beating a poorly trained and managed Tyson.. Mike fell off the rails at an early age.. Losing to inept John Ruiz is the pits for Holyfield.. Let’s face it, Holy was easily beaten twice by Lennox Lewis after ducking him for many years... Even with flagrantly rigged judging and the playing field tilted enormously in his favor by evil manipulator Don King ... Evander still couldn't manage a win...
