Toney Vs Jones Post the Joint Ruiz Victories.

We seem to be exploring this era's minutia.

And here is one with interesting timing and a re match at a different weight class.

Once again....I'm probably odd person out, but the Roy Jones that lost to Tarver loses to Toney....but not for the same reasons,

and not in the same way.....I think they are both standing at fights end, and James hand is raised in good scrap.

I just think at this point, James is better able to keep his emotions in full check, and Roy try's too hard and comes up short.

The wild card in this case and the possible flaw in my assessment is that Roy doesn't have to hurt himself toward reaching a comfortable weight.

But I don't see this as enough to overcome what I see as Toney's ability to stay cool under the pressure of this particular match up.

And I'm not fully basing my opinion on the skill level of these guys at this point in their careers, it's really about Toney's ability at this weight to nullify Roys speed advantages that RJJ had at the lighter weight, and Jame's ability to get under Roy's skin and take him out of his best game.

If your going to bring up steroids, fine, but I really think that's red herring here. Whatever it was that James was up to, I believe it was more technchal and nominal in it's actual impact on his performance. The only real impact it had was to cause an officiating organization to punish him. Totally a self inflicted error. With little or no performance enhancing aspects. And I suppose Roy was under similar suspicions in his career.....so let's call that a wash.

Toney still had more left in the tank for a few years longer than Roy did. Roy was one of those fighters that relied almost exclusively on his speed and reflexes, age has a tendency to catch up with guys like that faster.

Toney had a fully developed game more so than most fighters of his era.

Yes when Roy’s extra ordinary athletic gifts began to wane, guys like toney would have the advantage over him.

But while he had them, wow. Hopkins and toney got dealt with
