To beat the great Thomas Hearns, you gotta pressure him. I don't know if the great Luis Manuel Rodriguez could do that. He is not outboxing The Hitman at no stretch of anyone's imagination. No welterweight outboxes Hearns, but you could pressure him fighting inside where is his weakness.

Hearns wins by unanimous decision.

Rodriguez wins by late KO... Similar to Leonard... So does Trinidad, Griffith, Walker, Mayweather, Robinson, Spence, Brook, and Thurman.

It would be different days and opponents -- but same ending for Tommy.. He couldn't take it.

Tommy Hearns would ice Amir Khan or Chris Algieri.

Yeah agreed on Brook. Did you see what he did to Frankie Gavin?

Elmer, I strongly agree with you on this match up and yes, Hearns would get the better of El Feo behind his long left jabs and right hands to take a unanimous decision in 15 rounds. :TU:

Rodriguez pressured Middleweight Champion Nino Benvenuti and was winning the fight late when he got tagged... He beat Emile Griffith by UD -- and his losses to Griffith came by SD... Rodriguez also beat the crap out of Hurricane Carter twice -- a guy who blew Griffith away in the first round... He really punished Carter to the body.. He was a tough guy to beat in his prime by any Welterweight.. He was 51-2 in his first 53 fights, losing only by SD to Griffith and Cokes.. He did wear down from ring wear in his career like Benvenuti -- and he wasn't good near the end.. He fought 121 pro fights.

He was a terrific body banger which would make him ideal for Hearns in his prime..

Hearns destroys Luis by brutal ko at any weight

Yeah... Just like he destroys lowly Iran Barkley at any weight.. He was 29 when Barkley iced him.. Past his prime I guess.

I don't think so. The great Luis Manuel Rodriguez was not Piping Cuevas nor the washed up version of the great Roberto Duran at 154lbs. That fight would be the same fight like when he beat the great Wilfred Benitez by decision.

Benitez fought only 62 fights and Rodriguez fought twice as many fights... He was 51-2 at one point losing 2 disputed SDs to Griffith and Cokes.

Rodriguez beat Emile Griffith, Curtis Cokes, Hurricane Carter twice, Bennie Briscoe twice, Denny Moyer, George Benton, Holly Mims, Fraser Scott, Tony Mundine, Joey Giambra and many of the top Welterweights and Middleweights of his day... He frequently gave up to 10 pounds to Middleweights and kicked their butts... Benitez had a defense that could be exploited by good boxers... He was done at an early age.

Despite the fact that El Feo had more fights and impressive record, Hearns made the bigger impact as he used his long range left jabs to out-boxed Rodriguez before setting him up for a big devastating right hand to stop him before the 15th round.

Emile beat Dick Tiger twice. He was an ATG... No way skinny, chinny, wasted Hearns beats Griffith or Rodriguez... They were too damned tough.

You're crazy... Iran Barkley knocked Hearns stiff and he couldn't hold a candle to: Hurricane Carter, Bennie Briscoe, Denny Moyer, George Benton, Holly Mims, Fraser Scott, Tony Mundine, Joey Giambra and other world class Middleweights who Luis Rodriguez beat.

Rodriguez beat Hurricane Carter and Bennie Briscoe twice each.

That doesn't mean that The Hitman couldn't beat those guys above. I think that the great Luis Manuel Rodriguez could beat him, that IF, IF he could get inside Hearns' jab.

Would El Feo be much more aggressive than the great Wilfredo Benitez when he fought The Hitman?

Rodriguez doesn't even have a great KO pct. That means he didn't had the punch to hurt Hearns at least. What is your take on that, Kalan?

Of the welterweight greats that could beat the great Thomas Hearns at 147lbs, besides the great Sugar Ray Leonard, could be these guys:
Emile Griffith
Kid Gavilan
Sugar Ray Robinson
Carmen Basilio
Roberto Duran

My take is that he could hurt Hearns because Hearns had a weak chin... Or he could outbox and own Hearns because he was a better boxer.

Pardon me, but I was never impressed with Wilfred Benitez.. He had no chin and went down from a Leonard jab.. Tommy couldn't get him out.
