Can someone kindly explain to me how purse bids actually work. I get that purse bids are called if a deal can’t be reached but how does this sort out the percentages ?

I hear this from time to time but never really gave it much thought. I’m just happy when fights are made

Percentages are based on the orgs..

IBF give 75% to the champion..

I believe WBO give 70% or 60% to the champion and the rest to challenger..

Sometimes, 10% gets put in escrow.. I'm not that good at explaining.. I'm sure someone will explain more.

Example A (straightforward) using Champ gets 70% of bid:-

Promoter A bids £100k
Promoter B bids £90k

Promoter A wins

Champ gets £70k
Challenger gets £30k

Example B, where bid price is leveraged based on what a promoter has agreed with his fighter beforehand

Promoter A bids £100k
Promoter B bids £90k

Promoter A wins

Champ, his fighter, agreed beforehand to take £40k to get fight done

Challenger gets £30k

70k purse despite £100k bid

Example B confused me.. can we use names .. e.g. Lets pretend its a purse bid for WBC champ Wilder vs. Whyte.. DiBella bids £100k and Hearn bids £90k.. now explain using these names..

The promoter who wins the bid has to pay the away fighter, in your example Whyte, the agreed/mandated percentage, so in the case of a 70/30 purse split, £30k of a £100k bid.

What he pays to Wilder is between them. He could pay him the £70k or more or less than that depending on what they agree.

British Board rules are 60/40 split in favour of the champion or 50/50 for eliminators or vacant titles. If an eliminators is also for an English or Celtic title it reverts to the 60/40 split.

I'm not always a fan of the British board but in this case it's pretty fair. It takes two to tango.
