Jackson: I Don't Wish Kovalev Well - He Quit Against Andre Ward!

John David Jackson’s disgust with Sergey Kovalev is evident in his voice.
Nearly five months have passed since Kovalev’s technical knockout loss to Andre Ward in their rematch, but the frustration from their split is still fresh for Kovaelv’s former trainer. Their rocky relationship was an issue during training camp for Kovalev’s second fight with Ward, but it grew worse after Kovalev “quit” in their rematch, according to Jackson.
“Sergey is a guy who, when he first came here, he was humble,” Jackson told BS.com recently. “But the more he started winning, once he became champion, he became big-headed. He felt he did everything on his own. No one taught him anything, no one helped him get his title. So you get that from a lot of guys. He’s to the point now where [he feels] he doesn’t even need a trainer. OK. You need somebody.”
Despite their overall success together, Jackson will not be rooting for Kovalev in his return.
“Do I wish him well?,” Jackson said. “No. I can care less what he does. It doesn’t matter to me what he does, really. I can care less what he does in boxing. If he beats Shabranskyy, who has he really beat? He didn’t do anything. You didn’t beat the man that beat you.”
“You wanna be mad at somebody, be mad at Ward. Ward is the one that stopped you. Then you’re made because Ward retired. He had the nerve to say Ward is afraid to fight him a third time. He beat you convincingly the second time because you quit. No one else quit – you quit. But you want a third fight with him.”

He's not wrong that Kovalev quit..
Also, I think Kovalev did become big-headed the more title defences he made.

How did he quit against Andre Ward? The referee stopped the fight on a blow that should've been illegal for f*cks sake. By any form of basic human logic, this idea that Kovalev "Quit" against Ward is stupid.
He was getting the worst of it, and looked to be on his way to getting legitimately stopped. But as it is. There'll always be question marks hanging over both of his losses to Andre Ward.
1) Controversial Judging
2) Incompetent refereeing, allowing low blows as legal body shots.
And before anyone starts in on their "Butt Hurt" BS. This is not me being upset about what happened. This is me simply calling a spade a spade. If the fight had gone down the other way around with Kovalev willing as a result of low blows I'd have had a problem with that too. Low blows aren't legal punches, and you shouldn't win a fight as a result of them.

He quit, gil, looking for a gift DQ, and he lost the first fight according to the judges, who my card generally agreed with.
Krushedner has only himself to blame for both losses. Afterall, according to him and his slobbering posse of crybabies, he was supposed to destroy SOGgy in both fights.

This Kovalev quitting thing is as lame as if they stopped the first Kovalev Ward fight after Kovalev knocked Ward down, and people would say, Ward wanted to quit you could see it in his eyes..

He may have wanted out of there, and may have been on his way to getting KO"d but he didn't say to the ref I quit. He got hit with three low blows and the ref waved the fight off for ever allowing this controversy to go on. So the ref really did Kovalev a huge favor, allowed him to save face, and not get really hurt. Anyways Kov fought a stacked deck in both fights and did great...

He did NOT get hit by three low blows, and he talked mad sh!t before each fight, losing both.

He was in pain from getting hit in the balls so he was doubled over. I'd like to see you get hit in the balls and take it well.
I didn't think he destroyed Ward in the 1st fight, but I had him winning 115-112. I thought Ward was looking well on his way to stopping him legitimately in the 2nd fight, I'd say the referee robbed Ward of a more definitive victory as much as anything there, but that doesn't change the fact that at the very least warnings, or point deductions should've been issued for 3 consecutive low blows instead of awarding the guy the win following 3 blatant fouls.
I do think Kovalev should've been more forceful in there with Ward though, and I think he should've hit Ward BACK in the balls. That's what i would've been telling him.

He wasn’t in that much pain, given after the fight was called he nearly immediately straightened up and walked to his corner. Also, I disagree that all three shots were low.
Thirdly, he did nail SOGgy with low blows, one being a full on ballbuster. What happened? SOGgy walked through it and sonned Krushedner.

Anyways, Ward retires, Kovlev moves on, Jackson dislikes Kovalev and is no longer in Kovalev's camp , and both fighters(Ward-Kovalev) showed great skill in a match up on the level of skill and boxing significance of Trinidad vs De LaHoya.

You can disagree all you want to that the shots were low, but the video evidence is clear as day. Video don't lie.
