I just saw a thing in passing on Riddick Bowe and it instantly made me think of the Lewis fight that never happened! What a fight that would've been man! I can't think of a better fight that should've happened if that makes sense lol? Is there any other fights close to or better than this one that should've happened but didn't?

I forgot about them. I understand why that fight didn't happen though. Froch was nothing more than a mouth piece when Calzaghe was telling him to bolt lol. I'm a big Froch fan as well....

Yeah it was bad timings, Froch was just making his name and Joe was trying to secure big fights, would have been a good fight though

Would've been a class fight mate! Still think Calzaghe would've beaten Froch comfortably but I actually miss Froch more than I do Calzaghe!

I always hated that we never got to see Rafael Marquez vs Jhonny Gonzalez at Bantamweight.

Yeah I'd lean towards JC too, but Froch would have given it a right good go.

Trinidad vs Quartey would have been good. Both held straps at 147 in the mid to late 90s. Could have happened around 96-98.
Morales vs JMM to complete the round robin of those 2, Pac and Barrera as well. Around that 04-06 period possibly. Would have been a cracker.

Similar Froch retiring when DeGale was #1 contender. Quite funny how Froch ended up being guilty of what he criticised Calzaghe before all those years earlier. Don't blame Calzaghe or Froch for their decisions to be fair.

The one I always wanted to see that never happened was Naseem Hamed v Azumah Nelson.
That would have been a cracker.

Prime herbie hide v Frank Bruno (think there heavyweight careers just over lapped)
Add Khan v brook in a few years when they both retired
International
Kovalev v Stevenson
Hopkins v toney - maybe 93/94 between jones beating them

McGuigan v Nelson would have been interesting but Barry didn't fancy it after Nelson ko'd Cowdell in 1 round.

Hatton VS Cotto
A potential barnstormer that was never even close to being made.

Great shout, around 2005/2006 at light welter. Always thought hatton lost a lot of his strength advantage at 147 but at 140, its a great fight.

I don’t think Hopkins vs Toney was ever truly on short of Hopkins jumping a weight class or 2. Not while Toney was around his prime anyway

I'll add one of those fights that were blindingly obvious but endlessly deferred in a "We need to build it up" way:
Juan Manuel Lopez vs Yuri Gamboa.
I mean, JML kept being exposed as an enormo weight-drainery one-dimensional dude who got flattered by his marketing & Gamboa kept getting floored by nobodies before drifting off in a haze of boredom, but for like a year it was the best trade fight in the sport & if a little less greed were involved could've perhaps led to some sort of trilogy.

For me Froch retiring when DeGale was number one contender was slightly different to Calzaghe. Froch went out by knocking out a guy in a fight everyone wanted and that guy had beaten DeGale. Calzaghe beat a shot Roy Jones in a horrible fight that nobody wanted.
Thing is, instead of the Jones fight, the one that got away for Joe wasn't Froch; it was Kelly Pavlik. He was seen as an absolute monster at the time; battered Miranda, stopped Taylor, beat him in a rematch after moving up in weight. Joe really could have ended up getting the credit that went to Hopkins.
