Antonio Margarito looks MONSTER value at 4/6 to beat Daniel Santos this weekend (Blue Sq). Margarito has impressed me greatly over the last few years while I have never had much time for Santos. The Puerto Rican has become a bit of a non-puncher while Margarito has one of the best jaws in the game and is relentless going forward. Don't miss out on this one lads. It's a mortgage job.

There are some cracking fights going on stateside this weekend that have been overlooked somewhat. Pinto vs Cotto could be a craker, but I think this one might be even better.

Santos for me is one for the underated fighter in the other thread - he is still yet to reach his peak. However, I do believe he is a Light Welter who is trying to cash in on the glory devision - his chin is a major worry.

Whilst I have never seen him in a fight in which he is not hurt at some point, he always finds a way to recover and is a very good boxer. Margarito is one for the overated section IMO, I don't think he has fought the names to be considered as highly as most experts do.

However, styles makes fights and I just think Margarito's fast starts might prove to much for Santos - who usually takes 3-4 rounds to get going. I can see Margarito getting to him and stopping him on his fight at around the 5-6 mark.

Margarito has looked superb recently, he also has an unheralded win over Sergio Martinez. Didn't Santos get shook up by Neil Sinclair?

Margarito is the miost under-rated fighter in the world and is a darkhorse to upset anyone from 147-160, yes 160. He has a terrific jaw, relentless punch throwing and can bang, and as a Mexican the heart of a lion.

I'd say Santos is good enough to extend him but Margarito will catch up with a tiring Santos and stop him in the 9-11.

Margarito would beat Spinks too.

Spot on. The first paragraph states exactly why he'll continue to have trouble securing a fight with one of the big two at welter. IMO, he'll have to eventually move up to light-middle just to get some decent fights.

I'd pick him to beat Judah, as well as Spinks.

I'd pick him to knock Judah into another funny walk. No way Judah deals with what Margarito brings to the ring. No way. He eats him up and spits him out.

I just think its still early to be prediting such big things for Magarito. I admit that win over Martinez looks a bit tasty now, but his other best wins (Diaz and Lewis) were against faded fighters. His struggle with Diaz was a classic contest, but I don't think Spinks would have struggled like that.

Magarito has the style and also the punch to beat Judah and Santos (both of whom are chinny) but I think the stylish, rocked chinned, boxers like Winky, Spinks and Oscar would outbox him. Remember Diaz was winning the contest at the time of the stoppage, he can get outboxed.

Winky Wright and Oscar are obvious favourites in a fight with Margarito.

But for a fighter who gets very little coverage - I'd say he had major chances in both contests were they made.

Yeah I couldn't resist and took some of those odds on Margarito too.
Only trouble is it's in Santos backyard, and he's not too worried about a safety first win.
But the Mexican is a threshing machine, and has a good punch on him too.
I can't see Santos keeping out of the way for all 12 rounds -

Got to be Margarito for me. The guys a little ungainly but this doesn't detract from the viewing. He's a smashing puncher. Really beats his opposition up.

I don't think it will be coincidence that another lanky puncher will chew Santos up and stop him again, like Kofi Jantua did.

Did anoyone see Margarito against martinez who beat up williams and stone. in that fight margarito nearly bounched martinez head of the roof with a uppercut. Margarito against wright would be goood if he blows out santos.

I see the whole of maxboxing has gone for the Mexican, but the bookies make Santos favorite - hard to call, but I think Margarito gets it right.

Margarito is a 2-1 on favourite. Other bookies are similar....

I don't think this is a sure thing, and you punters should be careful. 2/3 is 2/3 for a reason. You have to take into account, how does margarito travel? how will he approach the fight, will he think he needs a knockout? How will this affect his gameplan, his mindset? From what I remember seeing of santos, the guy is pretty useful.

Also, six heads lewis made margarito look a total fool in the first round of their fight, he was boxing antonio's head off (admittedly before he got destroyed). Margarito is kind of awkward and oafish and in my view is likely to stop santos but not a dead cert to outbox him convincingly over 12, at least not in front of santos's hometown judges. he may be robbed.

lol. SHOCKING weekend on the punting front. Still reeling from Haye losing to Thompson and then this! My own fault though. Should have layed some off on the Santos points win given where the fight was taking place. Hindsight a wonderful thing. By all accounts Margarito was unlucky but am not sure it was a complete stitch up by the judges.

DAMMIT! I ended up clearing my online account on something I never felt quite comfortable betting on. what an idiot.

Yes good call - I put on a few quid (well token fiver) on Santos after the boxing news preview...but then after this thread I was convinced I had made a serious error.....

I was pleasantly surprised when I saw the result, Margarito has looked good recently and did destroy Sergio Martinez, but Santos is one of those underated types.....
