George Groves vs. Chris Eubank Jr - 17 February 2018

George Groves' WBA super-middleweight title defence against Chris Eubank Jr will take place at the Manchester Arena on February 17.

The champion, from London, had hoped their highly-anticipated World Boxing Super Series semi-final would take place in the capital, potentially at one of its football stadiums.

The series' promoters have now said he will instead return to the Manchester Arena for the first time since one of his finest performances in his first fight with Carl Froch, in 2013, when he dropped the then-defending champion and outboxed him before the controversial late stoppage.

Eubank ,he's improving whereas Groves peaked for me in the Froch 1 fight.

This will be a Eubank win, he will stop Groves inside 8 rounds. I think this is the fight that will make people sit up and listen.

This will be Eubank Jr's career defining win.

Groves is 100% knocking Jnr out in this one. Over by round 7, just got that feeling.

Groves hits so much harder than anyone else Eubank has faced, it’ll be like a completely different sport to the one Jnr knows on the night :TU:

It may well just go the distance.. with CUJ winning with scorecards around 116-111.. May see a knockdown

I say Groves outclasses him. With no confidence at all.

It's a fascinating match up.

I can't think of many domestic fights that would top this at the moment, considering where both are in their respective careers i think it's a great match up.

Groves win. He outjabs eubank and counters wirh more power than eubank has faced before.

He won't just stand in front of eubank like every single eubanl opponent apart from the 1 he lost too.

I think we can all agree that if it goes to the cards, it's Eubanks fight?
I also think that if Groves dosent stop Eubank inside 8 rounds, Chris will break George with his workrate and cumulative punches.
I hope George knocks that arrogant knob out :box:

I feel exactly the same way! It all depends on how Eubank reacts to Groves' power early doors. Eubank was fazed enough by BJS early on not to press his physical advantages till it was too late, but that was a long time ago and he is so much more confident now. On the other hand, he's not clever defensively, which spells potential disaster against arguably the division's biggest puncher. Against that you have Eubank's clear advantage in stamina and what looks like better durability.

Not one I'm putting money on...

Hopefully Eubank actually goes through with this fight, I wouldn’t be at all surprised if he ends up pulling out.

But if it does go ahead, I think Groves wins by ko. Eubank has been matched incredibly carefully for a reason.

Got to be George groves win🥊 He's got to get it done inside the distance though as longer it goes it favours Eubank

Groves is much classier than Eubank it's his fight to lose

Eubank looking good of late but been matched v careful hasn't he

He's never faced the likes of groves before

I'm hoping groves poggers him 🥊

I think Groves hits too hard for Eubank but I agree that it's a very interesting match up and either guy winning wouldn't come as a big surprise . Bring it on!

Why? I can easily see GG controlling this fight with his jab and counters. Everyone talking about Eubank's wprk-rate seem to be operating on the presumption that he's just going to be able to walk through a world-class jab and go to work. I've seen plenty of fighters known for a high work-rate drop their output dramatically when they're in with a better fighter who can time them, give them angles etc.

So by contrast, I think we can all agree that GG is the biggest, most experienced, hardest punching and most skilled fighter that Chris Jr has ever faced, no?

I personally think this is too close to confidently call. I tentatively picked Groves points but any result would come as not surprise - 'a real pick 'em fight' (to paraphrase Adam Smith)

A fight I'm massively looking forward to!

Convinced Eubank will win this- haven’t been impressed lately with Groves who struggled to beat a very limited fighter for the title- the badou Jack fight as well showed his limitations

How does Badou Jack compare to Eubank’s best win though?

I get that Groves has fought higher quality opponents. Just think we have seen the best of him but not quite the best of eubank.still expecting a good fight, not totally one sided but I go for a stoppage win for CEJ

It's not the divisions #1 vs. #2.. but it's definately 2 of the best goin at it. It's what makes it a great match-up.. also, both being Brits. Manchester Arena is neutral territory..
