The heavyweight division has been booming in recent times and this Saturday night Box-Nation subscribers will be able to watch Alexander Ustinov and Manuel Charr clash for the vacant WBA world title exclusively live.

Taking place at Koenig-Pilsener-Arena in Oberhausen, Germany, the two big men will be looking to make their mark and fire a warning shot to the other leading fighters in the division.

WBA number two rated heavyweight Ustinov goes into the ring with 34 wins, 25 by knockout, and just one loss on his record, that being against sturdy Bulgarian Kubrat Pulev.

Nicknamed Alexander ‘The Great’ the 40-year-old will be out to grab what may be his final opportunity at the big time.

An accomplished and respected fighter in Charr, who has fought some of the very best including Vitali Klitschko, stands in his way.

The 33-year-old has impressive wins over the likes of Michael Grant and Kevin Johnson and will be looking to add another victory to his 30 wins.

i like this one, should be decent. ustinov seems to have been around forever.

Despite being shot in the stomach and having a double hip-replacement operation in the past two years, Germany’s Manuel Charr is determined to become a world heavyweight champion later today.

Charr, 33, faces 40-year-old giant Russian Alexander Ustinov in Oberhausen and is adamant he will leave the ring with the vacant WBA "regular" world heavyweight belt.




“I’m going to be world champion — that’s a promise,” Charr said at the pre-fight press conference, having won 30 of his bouts with four defeats.

In September 2015, he was left fighting for his life after being shot in the stomach following an altercation at a kebab restaurant in Essen. Charr returned to the ring just seven months later, bearing the scars of the attack on his abdomen.

“It was said at the time that I’d never box again,” he said.

Then came another setback earlier this year when both hips were replaced.

“The doctors diagnosed congenital hip dysplasia — I had the mobility in the joints of an 80-year-old,” he said.

But now all that stands in his way of becoming a world champion is Alexander “The Great” Ustinov.

The nickname refers to Ustinov’s size as much as his wins, with 25 knockouts in 34 victories against just one loss, when he was beaten by Bulgarian Kubrat Pulev in 2012. At 202cm tall and weighing 136kg, the Russian is 10cm taller and considerably heavier than his opponent.

Charr has described Ustinov as the “bear” he will hunt in the ring.

“I do not know fear — fear is a feeling and I can control that,” said Charr, who is relishing fighting in front of a German crowd. “I’m a fighter, I’m always on top.”

charr gets a lot of opportunities for someone so poor. i think iits shady, much like the man himself.knife fights, shootings, etc.

Good win. Not the best of fights.. but a decent scrap to watch..

good fight, bellew might fancy his chances there as charr isnt the biggest.

got to say buncey and jones did a cracking job fill airtime, there was more than an hour between the undercard and the main fight.

I enjoyed it, both good fighting men. Got to give it too Charr, I thought at the start he was just going to wilt - he looked very distressed in the opening few rounds...redden up quickly and didn't exactly looked poker face, but he found a way - and then got to give it to Ustinov, he's more than just a big lout, he showed lovely grit to hang in there when "gone" .

Okay, not world level but too geniune fighters who gave it their all - if thats what fighting for the WBA regular title means, then lets see more WBA regular titles!

Thought SKY commentary was decent too.

bellew could beat charr. look at how breidis outboxed and then ktfo'd him. top cruisers are better than charr. i know bellew may not be in that upper elite of the cws, but honestly think hes good enough to have a good chance to beat a clubber like charr.

Ustinov has the worst technique ive ever seen, he's god awful, I wonder how good he would be if he knew how to box

What about Big Baby Miller?

Can you imagine how poor a fight between Miller and Ustinov would be? Neither can throw a punch. Be that bad, it would be funny to watch.

I also thought Charr was about ready to fold early on, especially after the cut but he got through it and won clear enough. You'd suspect that Ustinov is just about done, certainly looked it!

I think he's done now. He can drop of the WBA rankings. Let's slowly get these old guys off the rankings. Next is Oquendo, and then get Guillermo Jones of the rankings.

Manuel Charr was due to fight David Haye a while back. I’d expect the Haye v Bellew winner to target him.

Easiest fight to gain a portion of the world.. not a big money fight tho. Hearn would probably put Bellew vs. Charr on PPV and bill is 'undisputed world heavyweight championship'..
