Unexpected Retirements From Boxing

Discarding retirements due to injury or brain damage, which boxers retirements came as a surprise?
I'll start us off with Jemal Hinton. Undefeated, his retirement came out of nowhere.

He retired exactly when his record was padded enough to get a decent payday or even a titleshot.

Ward. I do think it has more to due with his hand and shoulder injuries over the years.
I still thought Maidana had a few more fights left in him.
Mosley actually surprised me as I thought he was going fight on believing the delusion he wasn't finished like Jones and Toney.

I think he retired because there was a lot of pressure on him to face Keith Thurman or Kell Brook... They would have messed him up.

And extremely frustrating for Vitali Klitschko... Who Lewis promised to rematch for months -- and was made Lewis's mandatory challenger.
That would have been a blockbuster fight -- and given the context of the first fight would have pulled a record gate and PPV.

I didn't expect the 2nd Mayweather fight to be the last we'd see of Maidana in a prize ring, but it's perfectly understandable considering the money he made in those two fights, and knowing he'd likely never be involved in anything bigger.

Why? It was obvious he was lucky to KO Moorer and to get the nod against Schulz. So when he was stripped the title and lost lineal title against Briggs (bad decision, but that is not the point) there was no way back. And he had no pressure either - he regained the title and proved whatever he wanted, and financially at that point he probably already got more money from grills than boxing...

I think he meant the first time around when he was 28

Lewis never killed anybody... He hit little 214-pound Mavrovic non-stop for 12 rounds and couldn't put a dent in him... Besides that -- Lewis had a record for being FLATTENED TWICE and Vitali was never even knocked down in his career.
Klitschko would have taken Mavrovic out... Vitali nearly had the vulnerable Lewis knocked out in the first 2 rounds... That's when Lewis slashed his eyelid open with foul blows, immediately to start the 3rd.. With blood gushing into his eyeball Vitali couldn't get a KO shot off...but he was still winning on all scorecards after 6 rounds in a fight that should have gone to a technical decision win for Klitschko. In the rematch Vitali would have smashed Lewis with a vengeance and obliterated him.. Moret wouldn't be the referee.. Lewis knew he would make tons of money in the rematch -- but fear overruled greed and he quit like a coward.

At least Lewis never quit like a coward in the ring, like Vitali did against Byrd
