OK, I've done a little bit research in this & come to the conclusion talent does not exist.
We are all equal - its just the mindset of elite individuals that end up separating us.
I'm not saying physical differences don't exist, they do....
If your 5ft 2in, don't be wasting your time trying to be a basketball player. If you're built like Michelle Phelps your body type is ideally suited to swimming (if you train). Although, If you can't sing you can't sing... no matter how much you train your voice. If you have a glass chin, you have a glass chin. If you can't punch, you can't punch. These are genetics. Not talent.
The man who can punch, can always punch even if he never boxes.
But something like anyone can do, dancing, playing guitar, tennis, boxing (skills), football etc. Anyone can do it. You just need the determination to practice obsessively.
No one has ever been born world class - nobody has ever gotten to world class without ever putting the hours in in their field.
Why have I only just realised this in my 30s?

I've not read the book but I've heard about numourous studies and the 10,000 hour rule

lol talent doesnt exist yet you fully acknowledge that ppl vary in their talent 4 power, singing, etc. those are exactly what talents are, natural differences in ability.same for something like speed.
and something like tennis involves large amounts of talent. things like speed, reflexes, etc. are not equal for everyone. our bodies and systems are made differently.
this is more like a feel good hypothesis, that we can all excel if we just want it enough.we can improve with practice but have different ceilings based on talent

No, a lot of people just can't even handle the training elite athletes do, they'd just just injured. Hardwork and training to deal with your weakspots can do a lot, but talent matters too.
And no amount of training wwill give you Roy Jones Jr reflexes.
A lot of people that have been around them say often there is nonelite guys working way harder than the elites.

Your voice is your voice.... It's not a talent. Most people learn speech, some sound nicer than others.
I admit natural variations exist, not natural talent. I'll go back to basketball. A 5ft 2 guy can have as much skills as a 6ft 6 guy. Only let's be realistic... The 5ft 2 guy will get discouraged, told to give up... Your not big enough. The 6ft 6 guy will be encouraged, told he is build for this sport.
There is no difference in talent when they both take up the sport but only one guy continues with his education in that sport and then excels. Why are all basketball players tall? Is it only tall people born with hand-eye coordination? If so, why are ping-pong players generally small?
Or is it only tall people are encouraged to excel in the sport?
I can't dance but if I could be arsed to practice for 10,000 hours there's no doubt I could end up dancing like Bruno Mars!

talent is a natural ability. some ppl have a lot more singing talent than others. some have a lot more power naturally. some are born faster, etc. there is clearly such a thing as talent that exists.most ppl can improve but within different ranges based on their talent.
what also exists is ppl thinking theyre expert on a matter cus they did a little bit of reading.

just a quick point thouhg, I haven't followed the NBA for years but back in the late 80s/ early nineties, there was a guy called Spud Webb (5'7) and a guy called Muggsy Bogues (5'4 I believe) who were good players in the league. however the idea that any guy 5'4 could play basketball if only he decided/was encouraged to do so, is false. most 5'7 guys can't dunk a basketball (Spud Webb actually won a dunk contest), and most of them aren't as quick as Webb and Bogues. so most 5'7 guys can't play ball in the NBA.
anyway this is just going to go back and forward where you say the only reason Webb could dunk was because he practised dunking for 10,000 hours, and ifg other 5'7 guys did this they too could be in the NBA, you'd be wrong, and it's all very , no offence.

Hard work is the key, but without the natural talent added to it, you’ll never be elite standard at anything.
Also, Will fvcking Smith? There’s harder working actors/“musicians” in your local town who have more talent too. The game he is in is nearly all about luck.
The world is full of coulda, shoulda, wouldas...in reality these types never had it.

of course ppl can improve. of course things like early coaching and dedication to something impact ability. sprinters practice because theyd be better than if tgey didnt practice. absolootly none of that means talent isnt also huge factor

That's when somebody has a natural knack for something even without being pushed to develop it. Those types when pushed to develop often become Elite at the thing they're "a natural" at.
There's a word for that. It's talent.

Maybe he just liked dancing so he spent a lot of time doing it.... Because he spent a lot of time doing it he got "ok"
People would then say, "hey kid, you've got a talent there"
Which made little Bruno feel all warm and fuzzy. So he did it more, to more acclaim... Which fuelled his fire further... And so it snowballed
