If he did beat Klitschko how would you rate him - number one in the world?

Have there been many boxers in the past who have struggled with domestic fighters but stepped up and held their own on the world stage. Someone like Steve Robinson maybe?

I wouldn't right off Danny - it's not exactly mission impossible. I think the Sanders fight showed Vitali is not as big a puncher as he was made out to be.
Williams has got the punch and chin to hold his own I reckon, injury or cut eyes might come in to it too.

Vitali mate.

These are two big guys with good power so anything could happen but I feel Vitali has the edge in experience, technical skill and a better chin.

I'm going for Vitali in 6-8 rounds.

Williams can do this, if his heart is as inspired as it was for the Tyson fight and somehow he can take Klitchko's early onslaught he can ware down the bigger man.

Remember Corrie Sanders almost did Klitchko, its Corrie Sanders FFS. A man more interested in Golf than boxing who was rediculed in 1997 by the Sky team when Paul Dempsey said he may fight Lewis.

I think if Danny comes in a little lighter and shows the determination of July, he WILL beat Klitchko. Anything less though and I think Klitchko.

i see danny nailing klitschko often but with little effect. I see Klitschko nailing Williams slightly less with devastating effect.

don't think danny has much of a chance in this one. bet big on vitali- if danny wins, so what, we have another british world heavyweight champion, that's better than money. or at least the amount you'd win.

it´s ridiculuos how easy you can get a wbc title fight. unbelievable like the WBO-fight last time.... this is not good for the sport.

But we're not exactly tripping over decent heavyweight challengers these days, are we? Who really deserves a shot at Vitali in December then?

Technically, Danny is the better fighter, but in other departments, except for handspeed, I think Vitali has all the aces. Bigger, probably stronger, though that's debatable, and a chin that thus far has proven to be able to stand up to the biggest hitters in the division. The one question is of course his stamina.

Danny did take some pretty heavy punishment off of Tyson to come back, but the difference is, Vitali won't have faded away after 3 rounds.

While I agree that there are probobly quite a few boxers who can rightly feel that they deserve to be ahead of Williams in the queue to face Vitali i think that after his less than awe inspiring match vs sanders he needs his first defence to be as high profile as possible. Because of his win over Tyson Williams more than any other heavy (except maybe Tony, who is not available) offers him this.

Vitaly is over-rated IMO.

If Williams can climb under the jab, and wrestle VK on the inside and take him beyond the sixth he can begin to enjoy success.

Sanders rocked VK to his boots in their encounter and VK's best other win is beating a 512lb Kirk Johnson.

I rate Danny's chances in this fight. I'd say if he's still there after five rounds (and providing he's not been down) he's 50-50 over the longer distance.

My doubt is that going into the 6th that Danny won't already have been hurt. Vitali isn't technically very good, he's an arm puncher, but when you're that big with that much leverage, it hurts. If he shoots the jab, he could bust Danny up pretty quick.

I must admit though, he looked like a rock'em sock'em robot against Sanders.

His chin did hold up well though, though a decent fighter wouldn't have been so wide open for those shots.

He looks like a robot in all his fights to me. He has no lateral movement and if forced to retreat does so in classic chin, up straight lines.

He is as you say a weight puncher not a light-switch hitter, as long as Williams doesn't stand at distance waiting for those long-distance bombs and forces himself inside he can enjoy success.

VK doesn't have the class or physicality for a close-up fight. Williams will also be just as strong - he's just as heavy with more strength in his legs and will be able to match VK in the clinch.

I'm trying hard not to over-state Danny's capabilities, but I think he can win this fight too! Obviously, VK is favourite - but he's far, far from unbeatable.

It all depends on whether Danny can negate that long jab, which is the set up for VK's trademark slugging right and powerful hook.

If he can - he can win the fight.

Imagine, if he does!!!!

I think the problem in the clinches dave will be the height advantage. Remember how hard Lewis found it in the clinnches with Vitali? Vitali has 6 inches in height over danny or thereabouts and that leverage makes clinches easier.

Vitali's 1-2 is really his best weapon, and as you say, if Danny stands off of Vitali, he's going to get smashed to pieces. Danny actually has a good jab, if he can get just inside Vitali's own jab, he can use it to good effect, much like an early Mike Tyson used to.

Danny does have a good range of punches when he lets his hands go, and

You have to say that Danny has a shot. I am warming to the idea of a Williams win, but Vitali's durability is the big factor in this fight I feel. I suppose the question is whether or not that volley of shots he hit Tyson with would have the same effect on Vitali or not. I also think Danny will find it harder to hit Vitali square because of the punching angles. Danny's right over the top certainly won't be easy to land on a 6' 7 fighter.

Go on Danny!

I'll definately be having a few quid on Danny if the odds are half decent, they must make Vitali the favorite but after Tyson I doubt we'll get Danny at 6/1 again :(

In the Sanders fight Vitali remined be of Primo Canera and didn't seem to bother with a jab just pawed out with the left to try and set up the big right cross. However I still haven't seen his fight with Lewis were I assume he was much more impressive?
