Andre Ward Twitter Rant!

You don't know what you really have until you've faced the best in the sport over an extended period of time. Then stop look at your resume and go from there.

Then when a guy doesn't perform or do what they boasted they would do before the fight...they start the blame game. It's everybody's fault but theirs. That's weak. You won't grow like that.

You don't have to announce "your coming" just come. You don't have to announce "I'm Next" just be next. You don't have to scream "give me my respect" you have to earn that.

Social media, entourages, media hype can give you a false sense of security. Causing you to believe you've made it, before you've actually done anything. Sad but true.

Hardly a rant is it.

I used the title of the article I read that contained Andre's quote as the title of this thread.

I agree though, he was simply dropping some knowledge.

Sage wisdom. Not a big Andre fan but like Ali, May and Sugar Ray L. he wins mostly with his boxing brain and professionalism.

Please don't mention the dirty slapper in the same sentence with Ali and Leonard.

Even people who don't like him will have to admit that Ward is spot on here. There's fighters out there now who have probably grown up watching 'Money Mayweather' dominating the sport and earning millions and thought "that's what I want to be like." Problem is, they don't want to put in the work to get there. Floyd was world champion for nearly a decade before he became the main attraction, these days fighters win 1 or 2 titles and expect superstar treatment.

Spence hit the nail on the head when he was asked about Thurman's comments about maybe not fighting until 2019. He basically just said "He's no Floyd Mayweather, I'm not going to wait around for him." Thurman should be itching to fight Spence! Those are the sort of fights that can make him a star if he wins. But in his mind he's a bigger deal than he is in reality. I actually do think Thurman is willing to fight the best so I hope he doesn't turn into a bitch.

Guys like Wilder asking for 50/50 to fight Joshua. Who the fvck do these guys think they are? AJ is a mainstream star in the UK, Wilder is a nobody in the US (and the UK) but he's the one making demands? I'll say it again, these fighters want superstar treatment handed to them, but they're not willing to put their balls on the line to earn it.

That last one is bang on the money actually.

Applicable to a lot of fighters in the UK right now.

Sounds like Ward is a lot more mature and world wise than 98% of professional boxers.

Yes, that comparison is taking far too many liberties.

Mayweather and Ward did win mostly by using their 'boxing brains and professionalism'. Unfortunately they weren't caught, but then again they won't be missed either. Boxing seems to be in a better place now.

Ward can't get to grips with why he isn't adored by the public especially when he sees Mayweather who wasnt either, making millions upon millions. Unfortunately for him, he wasn't born and bred into boxing game the way Floyd was.

He has the consolation of a perfect record, but only Rocky got the money, the adulation and the perfect record.

Different boxers view these three things differently.

Floyd was an exciting fighter when he still was a Pretty Boy. Hurting his hands and moving to higher weight classes made him fight defensively, and he was never as dirty as Ward, not even close. Ward has never been an exciting fighter.

To be fair, if you’d read his fúckíng post, you’d surely realise that he wasn’t actually comparing Ward’s feats to those achieved by the likes of Ali, Mayweather and Sugar Ray Leonard. :brick:

All he said that Andre’s success was primarily gained via a combination of his ring IQ and dedication to the sport, which is clearly a similar approach used by the aforementioned fighters. Even Sergey Kovalev praised Andre Ward’s dedication to the sport!

You’re obviously upset about Kovalev’s defeats, which is an entirely reasonable emotion to have if you are a dedicated fan of his, but please don’t allow your distress to compel you to behave in a moronically dishonest manner! :shame:

Boxers are allowed to be influenced and attempt to emulate the approach used by Hall-of-Fame calibre fighters, even if they aren’t as accomplished as them.

I guess head butts and wrestling moves are 'high boxing IQ' when you don't have the speed and talent of Mayweather or Sugar Ray..
A big part of boxing is confidence, believing you're the best and can destroy any man in the world. Ward has never lacked in that quality, anybody who calls themselves Son of God, aka Jesus is not lacking in confidence.
Before the Quillan-Jacobs fight they had an interview with Quillan. Quillan spent most of the interview talking about how great he was. Towards the end he started talking about how humble he was. I was watching it with a friend, we both turned, looked at each other and started laughing.

if it were as simple as fouling theyred be a lot more guys on andres level.hes a boxing master who still wins rounds by hitting without getting hit. and he does that standing right with guys.hes mainly boring because hes been so much better than his opponents. for like a decade only kov (a very good fighter) has even been competitive to the point where the outcome looks in doubt.and those were good fights that ward both won.

if he had more guys around his level hed be funner to watch.hes not a big puncher so hed never really electrify like tyson or can crusher ggg does, but thered still be better fights. blame his opponents for not being good enough, even though hes still fought a hof wirthy list of names.

Wouldn’t call him a boxing master, I’d say he’s a very good boxer. Good judge of distance, timing, backpeddling defence, a very good classic boxer, someone with that ability alone would be top 5 in their respective division. But then the wildcard element comes into it. If he fights someone who has an equal or even better boxing ability, he adds non boxing and bending the rules into his game. So...he is definitely not one dimensional. A very good boxer who can then transform into a grinding wrestler who fouls, who has the strength and stamina and experience (experienced grappler) to stick with it the whole fight and will wear you down by being on you, smothering your punches, holding you, hitting on breaks, pushing you around, things traditional boxers haven’t trained for physically which are physically and mentally frustrating and exhausting. I would say his victory over Dawson was one where he ground him down physically and mentally. On the other hand against Alexander brand, he used his boxing skills alone not needing to grapple. Clever and a mentality that is focused on winning However a style that makes me cringe when it enters grapple bending rules. He’s been lucky with the referees as you could be almost certain things he’s done in there would not be tolerated.

How do you beat him? In my opinion you need to have good to great boxing skills, incredible stamina, incredible mental fortitude to deal with the frustration, a grappling game or you need to have great boxing skills and a good ref who is a boxing purist.

Kind of like Kovalev did in the first fight.

And the 2nd fight... He was scoring better for the elapsed rounds when he should have won on a DQ... There is no practical way you can defend low blows -- that's why you don't score a knockout by punching somebody in the nuts.

Otherwise when Holmes bent over after Cooney hit him low -- they would have automatically awarded the fight to Cooney.

Won all his fights, fought top opposition, made money, got out young and healthy, that's a very good career and on top of that he kinda missed the boat fame wise which will give him some peace in retirement, gotta laugh at the folks going on about fouling and dirty tactics, boxers such as Duran, Tyson, Benn and Hatton were almost applauded for rule infringements cos it fit their profile, a good guy like Ward comes along prepared to do what it takes to win and the "fans" don't like it , crazy

I think Ward knew exactly what he was doing with low blows. I think he was getting back at Kovalev for calling him Son of Judges, mfer etc.

You got to have neutral judges too. It is extremely hard to win against somebody good who is allowed to head butt, elbow, low blow and hang on you for the whole fight.
