Thinking of packing it in

I've been helping out at my local gym training kids.
I've really enjoyed training them and being in their corner as a second on the unlicensed circuit, even though I don't really like unlicensed.
Just fed up of giving three nights of my week up and getting nowt of the head trainer. No praise, no money, nothing. Keep trying to get him to go amateur, but he's only interested in unlicensed. What would ya do ?

Why not take a break ? If you get the drive to come back and carry on then so be it, if not, don't

You have a lot to offer the kids and it would be a shame if you walked away.

This is quite common. The 'Head' trainers can sometimes be very insecure in that they begin to resent any newcomer who starts to introduce fresh ideas which appear to be accepted by the boxers. They usually start to undermine the new guy - its jealousy basically.
My advice is either 'handle ' the guy now that you know the score, or walk away. His gym will eventually crumble anyway.

Go somewhere else? Offer to help out at your local amateur club.
If you enjoy it, don’t let one bloke ruin it for you
He’s only interested in unlicensed because he gets paid by those competing.
The best amateur club in my area, which also happens to be the poorest and least funded, has never allowed unlicensed fighters through the door. If they are uncovered as unlicensed, they are told to leave.

Agree with the above, find a proper local amateur gym and get them to put you on the level one or a pro gym and get a seconds license.

Anyone who gives up their spare time to help 'educate kids' in whatever field are special people in my opinion. Without these blokes like yourself kids from certain back grounds would and will never get a chance to flourish or develop into something other than a smack head or thief or just a bloody pain in the arse. Not sure where you are helping these kids so might not even be a poor background where kids are not getting educated after hours.
My opinion is go to another club, if you are in a city you should find one easy enough, try to find those back street clubs where kids need your help.
I wouldnt worry about not getting praise from head coaches etc as its the kids who are praising you. Dont give in fella, kids need people like you.

I wouldl agree with this also. I'm sure there would be a number of amateur clubs who would snap your hands off and value all that you've got to offer

What about approaching the local council and tell them you'd like to open an amateur club, they might be able to help funding, then you could be your own boss.
