Frankie Gavin - IBO World Title

See Frankie is fighting Bethuel Ushona for the IBO Welterweight Title in Feb. Bit of a mad one, I remember when he first turned over he would be fantastic. Would of preferred to see him at 140 but hopefully this fringe title will get him some momentum if nothing else.

Should Frankie win this micky mouse title maybe we can look forward to the highly anticipated rematch between him and Brook on PPV.Is there a 'world champ' around with less ko wins ?

If he prepared well he'd be a light welterweight, simply not dedicated enough.

Ye Manny Pacquiao might perform better if he went back down to light flyweight

The IBO is as recognised has the WBA as a world governing body. The same body that fighters have there world titles like GGG still have, Eubank JR has and will be defending with groves WBA belt, Klitschko had for years and now Joshua I’m sure has to name but a few, but all of a sudden Frankie Gavin is fighting for it and it’s mickey Mouse lol.
It opens up massive doors and could lead to a fight with WBO champ Jeff Horn, so what would people say then ? By becoming a world champion sets up massive fighs and if the Horn fight was next and he was to win he would go from no where to No.2 in the division in the world owning the IBO & WBO world titles and be ranked just behind Crawford in the rankings, now that’s the reality of it and what this title can bring.
Let’s hope people get behind him rather than be negative or talk rubbish, it’s another chance for a british world champion.
Frankies weight is just fine with 10 weeks to go

I can tell you are close to him. I seen him fight from ringside recently and he doesn’t look like no2 in his division to me. Wish him all the best as he was a very sound seeming guy. If he can rise from his losses and fulfill his potential then it will be an amazing comeback story.

I've got no problem with Frankie but if we're being honest, the IBO is not a major world title. It's probably the 'best of the rest' but it isn't recognised as a major title by the main 4 governing bodies. That's just a fact.
As for #2 in the division. I really don't think that a win over Bethuel Ushona and Jeff Horn would put him that highly. For a start I think Crawford will get the next shot at the WBO belt anyway. But even if Frankie was to get those 2 wins, would that really rank him higher than Keith Thurman who has wins over Porter and Garcia or Errol Spence who stopped Brook on foreign soil?
I appreciate that you want the best for Frankie, and I'll be rooting for him when this fight happens but let's call a spade a spade here.

That is a really strange comment given your enthusiastic support for MBC/BIBA and the titles they use.

I don't agree that the IBO championship is on level terms with WBA, I think most people see it as WBC/IBF/WBA Super level, WBA Regular and WBO a step behind and then IBO after that.
Whatever, I saw the poster today and was surprised but I have no problem with it.
I don't know much about Ushona but he is ranked at a similar level and has amassed a number of lower level belts himself so could be a good contest.
Also nice to see BCB stepping up a little to (I think?) their first arena show.

Golly. A mod on a boxing forum needs to pose that as a question. Fascinating.

Saw him fight the mighty Slovenian Jan Zaveck five years ago and he lost every minute of 12 rounds. He's 35, has lost three of his last seven against weak comp. Then again, Gavin hasn't been a world beater since getting KO'd by Brook, so probably a good match

Too heavy, not in top shape, and lack of pop have been Frankies downfall over the years, and 2 of those allegedly due to lifestyle choices he has made himself. Those factors mentioned above have blunted that obvious skill Frankie has always possessed, leading to such high regards for him. Ultimately, he’s let himself down, and he probably knows it himself.
But still, nobody is perfect, so long as he’s paid off his mortagage, has some great memories, and can sustain his lifestyle into retirement, then I’d call that a successful career. Okay, could have achieve more, but still ahead of 99% of people at his age.
Good luck, and KRO !

I’m not saying I agree with that or don’t, and who has beaten better opposition but I’m basing it on the facts of if that was to happen then the way the points and the way the rankings work it would put him ahead of them yes. So that is calling a spade is the spade.
I do think Crawford will get his shot I was just playing devils advocate and what the possibilities can be when frankie becomes world champion, and despite how people rank it, The IBO is a recognised governing body by all other world/sanctioning bodies so that makes hims a legitimate world champion no matter what or how people rate them

The IBO is right behind the main four and probably on a par with the WBA 'regular' title. It's a legitimate world title and some decent boxers have held their belts so I see no problem with it. If Gavin wins he puts himself right in the mix for some bigger paydays, and I think he's more than capable of beating Ushona so I hope he'll be focused for this...
