Juan Manuel Marquez rejected $100m for Manny Pacquiao V in Philippines

Juan Manuel Marquez enjoyed his 2012 pulverization of Manny Pacquiao so much the Mexican will do anything in his power to preserve it.
That includes turning down a truck load of cash to face his career nemesis for a fifth time a couple of years down from their final meeting.
Explaining his reasons for turning away the chance to make a massive nine-figure purse, Marquez said the risk out-weighed the reward of eventually getting one over the Filipino Senator.
"There was an offer for a fifth fight against Pacquiao in the Philippines for $100 million dollars, and I refused in order to keep my honor and the glory of the fourth fight from 2012," Marquez told ESPN Deportes.
"It's a lot of money - but honor, pride and what we did is more important than doing a fifth fight.
"Let's pretend that the fifth fight would happen. How about if I get robbed in the fight, we do not know what can happen, he's capable of hitting me with the right shot and hurting me badly.
"So I would place myself at risk. The glory and what we did in 2012 is worth more than that amount they were offering," he added.
Prior to 'that KO', Marquez had been the victim of highly debatable scoring in his previous three bouts with the 'Pacman' in 2004, 2008 and 2011.

I'm starting to wonder if it was 100,000,000 philippine pesos which equates to $1,981,000

JMM is a pee drinking, PED taking, p*ssy and i'm not surprised that he made a comment like this.

I'm not the biggest fan of Marquez. That's the equivalent of taking your ball home when you score the first touchdown.

That $100 million figure sounds bogus. Very bogus.
I read once that Marquez earned about $14 million total in his lengthy career. Not bad but not close to what elites have made in recent years.
It seems preposterous that JMM would actually reject that kind of money.
That's why he's a professional---to earn as much as possible.
It would have been one if the highest paychecks in boxing history. Remember, that supposed offer came before Pacqiao vs Mayweather.
I do believe Marquez always shied away from a fifth fight with Pac because historically he always wanted to have the final word in that rivalry. And he had it emphatically.
When Marquez is old, he'll tell everyone that he beat Pacquiao 4 times but was robbed thrice.
He'll insist that he was always the superior fighter and then will add "If you don't believe me, go to the tape and see what I did to him in our last fight."
Marquez had the last word and his legacy therefore shines.
But $100 million American dollars? No chance in he'll he would have walked away from that offer. Legacy and risk be damned.

Marquez was never the brightest businessman. He went to Indonesia to lose to Chris John for a snickers bar.

Juan Manuel Márquez would not have rejected an opportunity to earn $100m to engage in a very winnable fight.
For sure, I understand his reasons for refraining from participating in a fifth bout against his Filipino nemesis, but I don’t believe the numbers that he’s allegedly quoting.
Perhaps the Mexican has been misquoted somehow, it's possible that something has been translated incorrectly or maybe naïve people have taken his hyperbole far too seriously, so we shouldn’t really jump to any conclusions about Juan Manuel’s alleged bizarre claim until we know the facts of the situation.

More like saying next goal wins when your losing by more than 1 goal.
Odd comment by Marquez, that KO speaks for itself even if Pacquiao returned the favour. He clearly has a lot of animosity built up from those fights which is a shame as they were classsics. To then ten down 100M suggests you’ve forgotten your a prize fighter.

Yet that isn't the case at all. He didn't win the first fight, just plain didn't, and it took one ignorant judge's mistake for that not to be a Pacquiao split decision. Their third fight is the only one that could really be considered for the robbery category. Lol according to JMM he's claimed robbery in every single loss beside the Mayweather one, where he found every other detail to bitch about.. notice a pattern here? The only undefeated fighter with 7 losses in boxing history lol, hallelujah it's a miracle.

Honestly I don't blame him for rejecting the fight.
If the money was a genuine offer or not doesn't matter, if he's rejected the fight, then he's rejected the fight and that's it. There comes a time in every boxer's career when they have to look at themselves and say "Can I keep doing this?" and if ever the answer comes back as 'maybe I shouldn't' then they have every right to walk away.
Coming back for a fight that he wouldn't have any heart in, no desire anymore and against someone who could still do a lot of damage; then he's just going to end up beaten and badly hurt.
He's fought some of the best of his generation and then some, won more then most boxers will ever dream of and like he said he want's to 'preserve' what they did in their last fight, who wouldn't want to treasure that final fight ending shot.
If he stays retired, looks after his health, he's earned his place in the hall of fame already.

No one argues that. Unless you're a champion obliged to a mandatory, every fighter has the option of doing what he pleases.
What's in question is whether Marquez truthfully rejected a $100 million payday.
Realistically, Marquez was at the peak of his earning power after KOing Pacquiao.
He probably would have been offered a purse between $10 to 15 million by Arum for a 5th fight, with additional PPV revenue.
But $100 million?
No.

- Only thing that ever shined and shimmered for Balco Juan is his pee tonics before he discovered the miracle of Balco Meme Heredia.
This is a guy who turned down $700K for the immediate Manny rematch to spend extra money on flight and accommodations in Indonesia to get humiliated by Chris John for $25K. He and is fans are utterly shameless in their stupidity, wearing it as badges of boxing expert honors as the recently humiliated Rigo fans can recall. Rigo stated Loma could never beat him in 20 reincarnations, so in boxing expert world he's 20-1 about like like Balco Juan is 4-0 against Manny. He was so dominate that he turned down his biggest purse ever for the 5th fight no matter the figure that he clearly clouded up in one of his pee tonics.
Go share a tonic with your hero if you dare. Bottoms UP! I'll go with a beer with Manny or Loma any day rather than to risk one of Balco Juan's pee tonics. Fighting Manny probably netted him 3/4ths of his career income because he couldn't draw flies in Mexico and barely much more in Vegas. Keep them gold nuggets coming Jimbo, your the mother's load!

Boyled kimchi sounds positively delightful with 9 figures involved.
