Trey Lippe Morrison

Its been over a year now since the guy fought last. I know he has been dogged with injury and now it seems he is no longer being trained by Freddie Roach.

Anyone got any news or info on the guy? Is it likely that he will be back in the ring? Is he infact back in any sort of training at all yet?

I've gotten so used to undefeated prospects, usually HWs disappearing that I don't even question it anymore.

His brother was also making a bit of a head way, granted not beating much of note but Kenzie hasnt been in action since August either.

It seems as though we (the fans) care more about these guys than they care about themselves.

They fall off the radar. Drugs and/or alcohol?

theres enjoyement and life outside the ring aside from alchol and drugs. they may care about themselves plenty, it may just not be in boxing first and foremost. we only see them as boxers but theres often a lot more to them.

Kenny Klingman was an undefeated middleweight who quit boxing to become a Miami cop. Lee Canalito was an undefeated HW who did some acting an opened a gym. So I do get your good point.

But other times, the partying takes over. There was an undefeated cruiser named Graziano and HW Darrel Madison who just stopped boxing. But are these guys and Lippe entering law school? Probably not.

are graziano and madison substance abusers

sometimes guys just lose the fire or cant get the right breaks with their career and want to or have to do something else. not like these names mentioned were big time and making millions. boxing isnt often a secure lifestyle,

i also remember there was a young mex american prospect, i think unbeaten, who retired a few years ago to become a nurse because it offered his family a much more stable and secure financial future

Graziano had a rep in the armed forces as a substance abuser. Not sure about Madison.

I've been a student of sports and substance abuse for a long time. In baseball, when Darreyl Strawberry and Dwight Goodens stats fell off, and in boxing when Camacho and Leon Spinks lost their edge and Cooney took long layoffs i guessed that it was substance abuse.

Another guess of mine was HW David Rodriquez.

all those guys you mention beside graz and madison were making big money btw, they prob wouldnt at the time have the same financial pressure. drugs and alchol can be factors but a lot of the time its other things, especially for guys who havent already made it big.i recall reading that graz couldnt get much backing in kansas.

unbeaten us olympian was another. pro career was stalling, heart not in it, and quit to become a personal trainer and open a gym i think.

who knows with trey. hopefully he didnt have his dads problems

maybe he didnt want to leave family, friends, etc. those are some of the non druggy factors i mean.

J. Graziano was 14(13)-0-0.

Either he could tell in sparring that he was limited or he made a very huge mistake. If he had a lot of potential his family could have lived in more than one place.

What is he doing now? If he's making good honest money then I'm wrong. My guess is he is partying up a storm, playing video games, and working at a low wage job, if at all. Call me cynical.

maybe he is maybe he isnt, but plenty of guys have quit the sport or been inactive for reasons other than drug and alchol abuse or being lazy sods. its not like you personally know these guys either.boxings really the only context u see them in but for them its just one part of life

But without making it seem as though I'm patting myself on the back, I've been correct more often than I've been wrong with my guess of substance abuse. And yes I am guessing, of course.

Trey seemed like a decent prospect yet fell off the radar. Here are my guesses in order of possibility:

1) A Combo of alcohol or other drugs demotivated him.

2) A physical injury.

3) He discovered he has brains and went back to school.

PS. Don't be surprised if the next time Trey makes the news, its for a drug bust or DUI. I've seen this movie before.

would you guess that a guy like darrel madison fell off due to being a junkie as well?

Trey is back in the gym training with a new trainer, his fathers trainer. He needed time for an injury to heal. He'll have a comeback fight to get the cobwebs off and then have a TV fight probably early winter.

I didn't use the term junkie, but most boxers aren't Rhodes Scholars or insurance salesman. Most don't have something great to fall back on.

I saw Madison's last fight against Mike Marrone in Florida. He shut Mike out winning every round. It would be inconceivable to me if there is another reason.

Cooney, Leon, Dokes, Jimmy Young, D. Rodriguez Camacho and many many others went this route, but Graziano, Madison, and Trey are all sparkling sober, but just stopped?

Do you really believe that?

:TU: That was my 2nd guess. Good to know I was wrong w/ #1.

ya and plenty of guys stopped for other reasons. injuries, losing the fire, career not working out, wanting a more stable and predictable financial future. like i mentioned a guy going into nursing. none of graziano, madison, etc made it big either.

your comments are overly broad for someone who really knows nothing about those boxers personally. and it shouldnt take you very long to find an article about all the career problems madison for example was having about not being able to get serious fights and being frustrated with it. i doubt he was making much and he wasnt really progressing far.

No, Madison is going to admit he likes to party too much.

Overly broad comments are often right.

Frankly I don't really think there is much of an argument here as I've stated repeatedly there are other reasons, such as the Klingman and Canalito examples to name two.

But you seem to have a real problem acknowledging substance use as a problem in sports. I'm a substance user, arguably abuser myself. I'm not trying to make a political statement.

you were the first one to bring up substance abuse sweetheart. i then said there are other causes to inactivity and early retirement as well, but that it can be a factor. but without any real specific evidence on anyone you want to just assume its substances or think its likely, when thats pretty fornicating stupid given all the various reasons ppl stop boxing, esp ppl who arent financially set and dont find themselves making much money in boxing. im not talking about other sports or about loaded baseball players.

Where did I say there weren't other causes?

My hunch was correct on about a dozen boxers.
