HAS DAVID HAYE GOT ANYTHING TO SAY???

Not being nasty at all, but he's always come on the sites with his opinions so it would be interesting to see what he has to say regarding his training methods in the light of his defeat and the points of view of some of the fella's posting on here.

I don't believe this lack of training theory for one minute. Haye simply hadn't had enough 'rounds' under his belt. I could cite a thousand examples of fighters - after a run of quick knockouts - blowing up and getting stopped.
They all trained hard in the gym, too.

And lets face it - Haye always looks in amazing shape

I was absolutely shocked by Haye’s performance. He’s a fighter I’ve always backed quite heavily, so it’s gutting to see him end up exposed in that way.
I have to say, I had bad vibes as soon as I saw his ring entrance and the fact Jodie Marsh was there.. I instantly thought Walker vs Karmasin ..and all the time Walker seemed to be lapping up the fact Jordan was “in his corner”. Who needs a page 3 bint involved in your team when you’re preparing for a title fight?
The way Haye came strutting in was ridiculous looking as his career to date. He walked in like he was Roy Jones or something, and his attitude was all wrong. It was clear he wanted to show off and that he though the fight would be, although not easy, straightforward.
Haye’s cardiovascular conditioning was clearly pretty dire…. and he received a serious wakeup call. He’s good enough to come back from this, it’s just a shame that attitude wise he obviously isn’t as intelligent as he comes across in interviews and is too interested in how he looks as opposed to how he fights.

I knew the result before I saw the fight on Saturday and I was cringing at Haye's ring entrance knowing what was going to happen to him.
He still remains my favourite fighter - let's just hope he loses a bit of that attitude because he is damn good.

Remember how Brad Pitt looked as a bare-knuckle fighter in ‘Snatch’? Like he was carved out of wood.
Guy Ritchie in an interview said how him, Pitt, Vinny and others would go and play poker at the top of some old house or something while on set. There was a long steep flight of steps. Pitt was absolutely KNACKERED when he got to the top each time.. the rest of them weren’t. Ritchie commented how Pitt "is a fit looking bastard... but he bloody isn't!!"
Fitness is an odd thing. How fit you
look, and how fit you
are can be at opposite ends of the scale it seems.

I read a piece on Secondsout.com a week or so before the fight in which Haye said: "I'm just gonna go out there and knock him out!"
Like you say, Haye obviously isn't as smart as he appears.

Fair point. I seem to be at wrong end of scale on both.

Pitt had a body double for that film, I believe it was Peter Culshaw, or was it Colin Dunne, I forget now. Pitt is also on the atkins diet or some macrobiotic diet which would perhaps explain his lack of puff.

plenty of cigarettes (pitt smokes) and cocaine and you will be nice and ripped and have that Brad Pitt look.
Takaloo, Scott Dixon, Scott harrison, Tony Oakey, never really looked "ripped" but all had/have great stamina and last 12 rounds no worries.
its not always possible to tell fitness by looking at body fat.... unless you are comparing the same fighter, Who for example is normally ripped but comes in with love handles for a fight.

Maybe one of the scientists around here could shed some correct light but I thought Haye looked okay from a cardio vascular side. He seemed to be controlling his breathing very well. He just had nothing left in his arms, back or legs. Haye reminded me of me whenever I do any boxing training.

to be fair i thought haye was pretty honest when interviewed after the fight. didnt make any excuses about losing and gave credit to carl thompson.
he did fight the wrong fight blasting away for the first few rounds till he was tired out and there didnt seem to be a plan b.
surely he knew carls ability to ship a punch and come back, though perhaps his anxiousness to get him out early was indicative of the fact he knew he couldnt go the full 12. who knows. would be interesting to hear his thoughts though

I actually didn't think Haye looked in amazing shape. Fine, he's not exactly Kirk Johnson, but when you say looks in good shape then I think of people like Hopkins, Nelson, Morales. Haye looked to be in good nick for the average joe but not for a boxer going into a world title challenge.
Say what you like, but to get into really good championship shape it takes a lot more rounds. This is partly because of the shortness of his career to date but I'd also venture to say Haye doesn't know how hard he has to train because he's not had to do the full 12 - and the way he stood waiting like a lemon showed he wasn't confident in his ability to do the rounds. This IMO is an extension of boxing basics - you think you're fit, then try hitting a bag for a round. The more you do it, the more you realise just how hard you have to work.
I've never seen Kostya Tszyu and thought that he looked super-fit, but when he's in shape there aren't many fitter.
I told my dad the other week that the fitter you are, the more easily you sweat. He's taken that to mean that, at 57, 5 foot 9 and 18 stone, he's in the shape of his life

lol.. love the title of this...
I think Hate said it all post fight really. very mature interview and I quite liked him after it. He hasn't got a winners mentality though. He shouldn't care about the fans, "the fans would be booing"... So what! I think that could be the downfall of his career. His stamina wasn't all that either, as people have said.

I think when Haye was going on about going to war and not wanting the fans to boo him/putting on a show etc he was just putting a brave face on things...how many times have fighters got booed and said it's all about getting the win? Of course it is!!

You're right there Steve, what else could the poor bloke say? He'd just seen his big gamble explode in his face - he took it very well though, credit for that

To be honnest I was aprehencive for haye and thought it was a daft move from the start. The fact is that Thompson is a human heavy bag when he wants to be.
Having said that I don't think this is the end for haye, it may have done him some good. In my oppinion he shouldn't go looking for the immediat rematch but take on a couple of meaningfull bouts which would test him and take him some rounds, people of the Rob Norton type would be the favorat for that.
To me his loss looked somewhat psychological it appeared he had run out of ideas when he couldn't blast Thompson out. In his mind he may have thought he genuinly was slowing the pase but he had no real knowledge of how to do that as a result of his lack of expireance.
Incodently what a barrage of punches he put thompson through at the start of the fight. I wasn't sure how anyone could stand that kind of attack esspecialy with the power Haye has been said to have. Unless that has been over rated.

Surely the power is visible. Thompson was rocking all over the place in the first two rounds.

True but even Rothmann was rocking him and he isnt much of a puncher. If Haye's power was all it's cracked up to be (some said the hardest hitting cruiser) then he'd have knocked him clean out as Sellers did surely??

No. There's more to knocking someone out than pure puch power. A lot of those punches were anticipated. Knockout punches are often the ones you don't see coming.

Fair point. But I still think Haye's power was being overrated, Danny Williams was saying he hits as hard as most heavyweights. If that was the case there's no way Thompson could have took as many clean headshots in the first couple of rounds without being knocked out.

HE WASNT FAR OFF.
I dunno thompson has proved he has a granite chin in the past, could be a case of being fresh and prepared for an onslaught.
After all williams survived tyson in similar fashion and no one has questioned tysons ko power (believe me at the end of the first thompson was not on planet earth you could see that from the corner's reaction also) and in the 2nd he was perhaps 2 or 3 punches away from being stopped.
I dont think too much should be read into this, one thing is for sure though that Haye's shots containined significantly less power from the 3rd on.
