kean beat a developing tony yoka in the london olynpics but he looks crude and wild to me, though strong at a C+ or so level. the grizzlys a fitting nickname.

keans really fought no one so this is clearly a step up and a test. his previous best was probably nascimento, whod already been stopped in 3 by sol.that or 8-5-4 avery gibson.

I didn't realize this was a title fight. I think Kean should win this comfortably but Haumono is a good puncher at his level.

jamamb mentioned Avery Gibson who is one of my favourite journeyman fighters. Way better than his record suggests which is only unimpressive at first sight because he fights people who are expected to beat him. I daresay having to fight at short notice and hold down a 'proper job' are familiar problems that hold back a lot of potentially good boxers.

This doesn't say anywhere that it's for the CW title, has Lenroy Thomas been stripped? He and Allen were down to rematch in March I thought...

Lenroy Thomas won the vacant title in his bout against Dave Allen in May last year.

There was to be a Thomas-Allen rematch in October, on the Joshua-Takam undercard, but it didn't happen.

The winner of Thomas-Allen (the fight that didn't happen) was to defend against Dillon Carmen by March 2018.

Thomas has since fought and beaten Ed Fountain in the US , and Carmen lost to Mladen Miljas.

part of it is in french but here it is:

Le 10 Février Simon Kean se frotte à Solomon Haumono dans un duel éliminatoire pour le titre du Commonwealth!
Voilà ce qu’ils ont dit, Solomon Haumono: “I look forward to fighting younger and exciting Simon Kean. Its a prestigious belt I would love to hold. To the Canadian people thank you for welcoming me to your lovely country and Febuary 10 is when we both are going to do our best to be the winner! This will be quite a battle! God bless
Le coach de Haumono: “This is an exciting time for Australian Boxing and Solomon Haumono (Solo). Commonwealth Title is regarded as the stepping stone to world honours. Sol father was Joe Frazier’s sparring partner and Solomon has held the Australian and regional titles but the commonwealth title has alluded him. We look forward to the challenge. We would also like to thank the promoters and the Canadian people for having us.”

Last time I saw Solo fight on an Oz broadcast, he looked well shot.
What a bummer we are not getting to see Lenroy Vs Dave. I was looking forward (and hoping for Dave's redemption) to that one.
Does anyone know if it is still happening?

Nice step up for Kean. He looks solid, part of a really good Canadian scene; probably the best HW scene up north for quite some time.

This fight will answer questions about his chin and stamina.

It might answer chin questions, but as for stamina, last time out Solo was puffing hard after the 3rd round :maybe: and prior to that, Parker put him to beddie byes in 4

It's a solid test for Kean. Haumono sometimes gives decent fighters a hard time, he beat Kyotaro Fujimoto, and has several wins against journeymen. If Haumono is a gatekeeper, then he's about the worst gatekeeper in the world before you can't even use the term anymore. Haumono is a hard hitter, though; so although Kean is the favorite, he could get knocked out.

Keane hasn't really been hit yet or forced to dig. I want to see how his stamina holds up against a banger that will try and punch back...at least for a few rounds!

the commonwealth bauble is an embarrassing joke, like all the baubles.

Haumono is a shot former gatekeeper

Kean is untested and looks like yet another muscle droid

I expect haumono to fold for the money insode 4

I quite like the Commonwealth belt. It's only available the commonwealth countries, and doesn't whore itself out like other belts (where you might have an African and a Ukrainian fighting for the WBO Pacific belt or whatever).

Almost all the top heavies from commonwealth countries have fought for it at some stage.

Few slouches in this list.

Lenroy seems like a lovely chap but he is the weakest champ for a long time.

That may be, but how on earth can Solo be a challenger for this belt when he is coming of two straight losses and has fought once in 2017 and once in 2016 both times losing? He is 3 years off any relevance at all...

i agree. sol has some power and has at least a decent win over fujimoto to his name. 3 of his 4 losses are to guys who have fought for world titles.

its not like kean is some super super hot prospect or contender who should be fighting for a title next. for a fairly untested guy whose best opponent is avery gibson or nasimento (stopped in 3 by sol) this is a decent step up.

You're right, the last two fights for the belt are a big step down from Joshua and when Price was a world champ in waiting.

haumono just lacks that killer instinct and goes through the motions too much.
