"Amir Khan teases boxing fans a big announcement is incoming"

Amir Khan has revealed he plans to make several announcements in the next ten days as he prepares to return to training.

But, the 31-year-old has insisted he will return to boxing this year and teased fans he would soon be sharing some big news.

‘I am going to be making some really big announcements in the coming ten days before I go back to training in America,’ Khan said on TalkSport.

‘But this is news that everyone is going to be shocked hearing.’

The Olympic silver medalist admitted Kell Brook was a possible future opponent, but was more focused on securing a rematch with Lamont Peterson or Danny Garcia.

Khan was recently in Australia to witness WBO champion Jeff Horn beat Gary Corcoran and joined the queue of fighters calling out the Australian.

Thoughts?

Lamont Peterson has a fight lined-up against Errol Spence Jr.

Keith Thurman is currently sidelined due to injury.

Danny Garcia is facing Brandon Rios next month.

Kell Brook is now a 154lb-er and is facing Siarhei Rabchanka in March.

Lucas Matthysse already has a fight lined-up against Tewan Kiram.

Jeff Horn has been ordered by the WBO to perform a mandatory defence of his title against Terence Crawford.

Using the process of elimination, Jessie Vargas, Manny Pacquiao or Shawn Porter are potential candidates to be Amir Khan’s next opponent, assuming the Brit’s announcement is truly “big” and would “shock” fight fans.

With both Vargas and Porter being Haymon fighters, we’re more likely to see Khan face one of those two rather than Pacquiao. However, with Shawn holding the WBC’s mandatory challenger position and their ‘Silver’ title, it wouldn’t make sense for him to face Amir Khan and risk losing a shot at redemption against Keith Thurman.

So my money is on Jessie Vargas being Amir Khan’s next opponent.

Teases?...... it's a bit like when my neighbour tells me he's trimming his side of the hedge...... fair enough, but it's not like a give a sh*t.

If anything it's more annoying as you then have to trim your side really.

I think Vargas will end up against Thurman.

EO's process of elimination makes sense, but I don't think Khan will get Vargas. Outside the UK, and to some extent inside the UK, Khan is probably thought retired or dead.
2 high profile losses and then almost 2 years of inactivity.
How does he have the pulling power to get someone on the level of Vargas?
Well anyway, I'm not getting my hopes up that his announcement will be that great or exciting.

Brook or Pacquiao? Could be Thurman too. Khan is less of a risk than Jesse Vargas at this point, so Thurman could go that direction. If I had to guess it would be Brook though, since he mentioned it being in the UK in March.

Whoever it is, I hope Khan entertains us in his normal fashion, counting the lights. :OhYes:

Is this the new thing in boxing, whereby fighters make announcements that they're going to make an announcement? :-? :-x

Why can't they just make an announcement when they actually have something to say? :brick:

An ego trip.

Khan apparently believes that the world is in a tizzy awaiting anything that comes out of his mouth.

Amir Khan assuming that any announcement from him is going to be particularly big is misguided.

A 'big announcement' . Is he going to retire officially at last and shut up for good ? If not I'm sure it's nothing we all haven't heard before.

The only shocking things would be the Pacquaio fight that he's been chasing for years, a drop in weight class to fight one of the bigger names at Super-lightweight, a British title fight or please, just please, let it be a retirement announcement.
Other then these. Nothing he says can be given real merit until he's actually back in the ring.

That might be likely, sort of makes sense. 60/40 for a khan win.

My gut instinct tells me that Amir Khan will announce a promotional deal either with Queensberry Promotions (BT/Box-Nation) or with Matchroom (Sky Sports/HBO), which will result in the Brit facing the likes of Adrien Broner, Kell Brook or Jessie Vargas during 2018, with there being an outside chance of him eventually sharing the ring with his old sparring partner, Manny Pacquiao.

I think there’s good chance his next outing will be staged on British shores in March, possibly against Broner or Vargas, but I can’t help thinking that he’ll disappoint us by scheduling a bout against a journeyman instead, purely for tune-up purposes.

And according to Khan, his next two bouts are scheduled for July and December, which is when I’d expect him to engage in fights against big name opposition.

In terms of Khan’s chances of defeating Brook, both of Kell’s eye sockets were broken during his last two outings… and as we’ve previously seen with other boxers (i.e. Barry McGuigan, Chris Eubank Sr., Julio Cesar Chavez Sr. etc.), when a fighters eyes have “gone”, there’s no real coming back from that.

So Amir really does stand an excellent chance of defeating his fellow Brit if they can eventually agree to engage in a Wembley Stadium-filling summer showdown. I can’t help thinking that Khan will be motivated to face Kell Brook later on this year.

Dont forget Brook gotta get past Rabchenko first, up at a higher weight against a guy that can punch a bit could spell disaster for Brook

It's all plausible, for sure. Khan has done unconventional career swerves. I couldn't predict his future. Just like I never understood all the waiting about for big money fights he never got while father time may have dwindled his talents.

I’m not convinced khan can beat Brook even with those significant and terrible injuries Brook endured. We’ll have to wait for both of them to fight other opponents to really see. But under Hunter I feel khans offence has diminished whilst his defence is still....porous. I had khan winning the first two rounds against Canelo, only just slightly. Then Canelo landed the bigger harder punches walking him down. He gave Canelo a taste of speed, not a boxing lesson.

No way will Khan face Brook. He has used every excuse in the book so far, and now he can add the weight excuse. If Brook drains back to 147 to fight him, I will be shocked. This is one of the few times I would look forward to a catchweight fight just so I could see Brook shut Khan up for good. Khan would only fight Brook if it is his last fight.
