Sports Network promoter allegedly has been travelling the US in the last 3 days trying to deliver some big championship fights for his three most popular UK fighters in Danny Williams, Ricky Hatton and Joe Calzaghe. Friday's announcement of an agreement with K2 promotions for a December bout between Danny Williams and WBC champion Vitali Klitschko was a positive start to the trip. Initial discussions have also taken place with Showtime about unbeaten Jr-Welterweight Ricky Hatton facing the winner of the upcoming Kosta Tszyu versus Sharmba Mitchell bout. Ricky "The Hitman" Hatton has seen recent potential bouts with WBA Champion Vivian Harris and Sharmba Mitchell fall through in 2004 and is keen to make a mark on the 140 pound division in early 2005. Similarly, initial discussions have started with Joe DeGuardia who looks after WBC 175 pound champion Antonio Tarver about a possible match with WBO 168 pound champion Joe Calzaghe who will make his 15th and final super-middleweight defense on October 22nd in Edinburgh. Overall it looks likely to be an excellent end to the year for UK boxing if these potential match-ups can be inked.

Think it will be one out of three for Frank unless Ricky and Joe agree to fight in America.

I know. We can still believe though.
Also talk of Holyfield Vs Skelton, which made me laugh.

hold up a minute you gotta say he did effin well to williams a shot at vitali.
Im first in line to shoot my mouth off bout crap match ups but in this case in light of tak alexander and williams and Vitali being announced I feel we should be fair and give some credit.

allegedly is great.....at talking about BIG fights.
If he can make 2 out of the 3 BIG fights that he is talking about for Hatton, Calzaghe and Scott Harrison then I think he deserves to be cut some slack IMO

J - depends what big Danny is getting paid. Warren hardly covered himself in glory for Danny's purse (most of which he still hasn't seen) against Tyson.

I'll take a wild stab that Danny wont clear £50k for the fight.

The fight is on PPV in america, danny will make big money.

Nope. How much do you think he'll make then after tax, deducitons, promoters, training fees, trainer, etc....?

People always forget the tax bit, which is a whopping 40%. It's amazing how little a world title fight can earn people. I seem to recall that Hopkins earnt only 200k for some of his defences, and that was dollars. Weren't some of his title fights not even televised.
Danny may earn more than we think, it's hard to guage what his profile is like in the states right now, but he may turn out to be quite a PPV draw. All depends on the terms, and it's quite possible that he won't be offered very good terms by Vitali's people, in fact that's quite possibly why he is being offered the fight. So hard to know in these cirumstances.
What is heartening is that Danny appears to have just jumped at the chance, none of this 'it all depends on the money being right' he knows what a massive opportunity this is, and even a loss if it's not too one-sided need not be a disaster.

surely Danny must be on £500k+ for the Vitali fight...
although the piss weak dollar may hurt him when he gets paid.
Warren might not take his 25%, he doesnt always.

I doubt Danny is on a $500,000 purse. I just dont see it.
$300,000 before deductions tops.

I think the PPV sales will be good for that one. People in the USA will watch purely to see if Danny's win against Iron Mike was a fluke or if he really is the real thing. Klitschko is well respected over in America bcuz of his fight with Lennox and the fact that he was the heir to the throne in many people's eyes.
But you can never be sure with FW can you?

I dont see it matters how much he is getting paid. You would hope he would fight this fight for free. If he wins then he will make more money than he can spend and if he loses at least he gave it a go and will still be able to find other fights out there as a stepping stone for other fighters or for a less major belt.

Just my guess but I think Danny will be on a decent purse for this fight, certainly more than $500k, but will get little or none of the PPV stateside. Remember a lot of money will be earnt from UK PPV sales and that makes Danny quite a valuable commodity in addition to his Tyson rep.

Doubt get me wrong Danny VS Vitali is worth some praise, but allegedly deals with Dannys career in a different way to how he deals with his stars careers i.e. Calzaghe, Hatton and Harrison.
He is willing to throw Danny into the lions den (which is a good thing), but seems very unwilling to do the same for his stars. I think he sees Dannys career as a bonus (his stars are his sons and Danny as a stepson

)

I think that is probably pretty accurate. After all, Danny has flown the coop before and returned after being with the Beeb, so he's not going to be the apple of Sports Networks eye, unlike Calzaghe and Hatton who I think have both had their entire careers with SN?

OH I AGREE he does treat williams different taking the chances that we would like to see him take with JC and RH and the likws with Danny. (Who has changed promtional teams more than once, you are right).
But still I have to say he has made the best fight out there for danny.
As much as we all crow about the others and their lack of competition in this instance I think credit is due thats all!!!
