"Vicious" Vivian Harris - help needed

Vivian Harris defends his WBA title against Oktay Urkal in Germany on October 23. He turned down a purse of $750,000 to fight Hatton in Manchester.
Does anyone know what he's being paid for the Urkal rematch?

He turned down $300,000 intially for the rematch and was paid $225,000 the first time around.

So I would suspect little beyond the $350-375 mark. But I dont KNOW, I'm only summising.

if he bottled, so did hatton.hatton could have forced it through purse bids. Why didn't he?Hatton REMOVED HIMSELF from the WBA ratings.

lol...

has that ever been done in the history of boxing?

Anyone saying that Vivian Harris fears Ricky Hatton has got to be joking. He has nothing at all to fear from Ricky, he's bigger, stronger, faster and hits harder.

I don't think harris is the one who needs to answer charges of Botteling he isn't the one with names like Dennis Holbaek Pedersen on his record

Also Michel Stewart... How is that an opponent with any credability at all. He is an embaresment to british boxers.

I don't believe this guy he won't fight Hatton for more money in England yet will face Urkal again in Germnay for like $400,000 less, he's so stupid.

he wouldn't fight Hatton with Hatton making more money than he did. He holds the belt so fair enough. All Warren's excuses have been that he can't drum up the kind of money that the Mitchells and Harris's of this world want if the fight is in Manchester, there's a simple solution to that wouldn't you say Frank, and Ricky of course?

he has still cut his nose off to spite his face though!

fact is he is defending abroad for a (about half) the purse through being pig headed.

I think both parties have been at fault in these failed negotiations.

Harris won´t risk his title vs. "Der Ali aus Kreuzberg" for such ridiculuos payments. Even Regina Halmich gets 200 - 300,000 Euros per fight. The fight will be in Alis hometown. there will be more money in it. Believe me, a million Euros for Harris at least.

I was thinng the same thing as Bubi, around 1mill euroes (isnt that what ARD gives Sauerland per card?) and maybe the foreign TV rights?

Well we'll know soon - if it's more than FW offered, then I'm sure Harris and Steward will be shouting it from the roof tops - if they don't mention it, then we'll know it's less.

I doubt there will be any foreign tv rights either. Eurosport will show it, but they probably pay around 5 Euros.

I meant that he might the the US right and maybe Guyana but he still have to sell them.

I dont think the purse size will be made public, its probably in the contract that they cant tell how much they are getting. I can remember the last time a non purseoffer purse have been made public in europe

There is no way they are getting more for facing Urkal. It's very obvious to me that Manny Steward talked Harris out of the Hatton fight, telling him to bide his time and see how things pan out. After all, with Mayweather coming into the mix, and Gatti et al out there, having that belt gives him options, though whether anyone really wants to face him that bad is another matter, he's not a draw.

I can understand that Warren and Hatton wouldn't have wanted it to go to purse bids, I'm not saying it isn't a shame, but it's understandable business practice for sure. The onus if it's on anyone is on Hatton, it's surely his choice as to whether he wants to take the risk or not, it's not up to allegedly to put a gun to his head and force him to take the fight.

Simple fact is, Harris isn't a draw, which is why he is going to germany, because he cannot draw a crowd back home and none of the big boys want to fight him right now, so he's getting the thing end of the wedge over in Germany, and could even end up losing his title...

1.6 Million dollars was a very unlikely figure, seeing as Hatton isn't going to really generate much more money for a genuine belt than he would for a routine defence I dare say, Sky and gate money would not increase significantly. I think Harris deliberately priced himself out of the fight, but I would have liked to have seen what would have happened had Hatton called his bluff.

One of the reasons that I think Harris is getting a very good purse is that the german are in need of a worldchampion. At the moment there are no german worldchampions and Sauerland is in really need to get a champ so he can get his, very good, tv contract renewed, and since Beyer, IF he beats Sanavia, will lose to either Green or Kessler, then Sauerlands only hope is Urkal and Steward also knows that so he could gamble and demand a very high purse.

I know Harris got $350,000 for the first Urkal fight in April.

According to a story on http://www.fightworld.us, Harris picks up $400,000 for the Urkal rematch.

Well if that's true, that's significantly less than he was going to get against Hatton.

Actually, the article says that was the amount of the original offer for the rematch before the whole Hatton saga. I dont think anyone has said yet what he will actually be getting for the October fight.

However, I have no doubt that he is getting significantly less than warren offered him to fight Hatton.

Harris, with Manny whispering in his ear, played a game of hardball. And lost. And then had to go crawling back to Urkal. Why would the Germans significantly up the their offer? Harris had just publicly cut off his main other option. His negotiating power had diminished not increased.

Of course he's unhappy. He's been a fool and he's just starting to work it out.

I don't think it is a case of Hatton or Urkal for harris more Harris wants a certain amount of money for a fight which is hard and he could loose, in Urkal's case he knows it will be easyer so while he is not getting a hughe pay day he is not risking much and then maybe Hatton will come back for the money Harris wants for that kind of risk.

Where dose all this leave Junior Witter, he has been quiet since he impressively wone the EBU title. It would be good to see him out again now he has a more real title than Hatton has.

Witter v Urkal has gone to bids - as at 2nd September - but of course Urkal is also Harris bound...so Witter is free....

Get Vilches over would be my pick and KO him.

by stujones
For Witter, why doesn't he fight that Nigerian who pasted Pryce. Might not be world class, but a good strong fighter. Pablo Sarmiento would also be a decent choice IMO.

Harris pulled out on the principle that there was alot more in the kitty for Harris vs Hatton than he was getting. He was angered that the challenger was getting significantly more than him. I do lay the blame with Hatton solely here, why didn't he just say - ok let make it 50:50. The same amount would have been coming out of Warren's pocket, so if he was that hungry for the glory he would have.

Perhaps, Harris also thinks its more of a risk fighting in Britain than it is in Germany, with good justification (ask Sarmiento).

Hattons fault pure and simple that the bout did not come about.

Good luck to Harris in Germany, hopefully he can win decisively this time.

As for Hatton, I love comments like "hes really come out with egg on his face", because honestly Ricky, no-one is laughing at Harris, they are all laughing at you.

36-0 and not one defining fight. Pathetic.
