Honestly, I don't ever care to see Rigo in another boxing match. In my opinion he is a quitter and a coward.

Is this what boxing has been reduced to. Seriously, I mean who gives a crap. Who would win right now Jason Litzaw or Canelo’s brother ?

Again , it matters what Rigo brings to the table, mentally and physically following the Lomachenko bout.

The fight would be at 126, so you wonder if a move up one weight division is in the cards for Rigo at the age of 37.

He obviously couldn't handle a 2 weight division leap.

Mares looked terrific against Cuellar. Maybe the best he has looked in several years. He was a solid underdog in that bout.

I think it would be foolish to count out Rigo, who is still one of the most seasoned, crafty fighters out there.

I have a hunch, that in a surprisingly entertaining scrap, the Cuban turns back the clock and frustrates Mares enough to earn a majority decision.

Let’s be serious. Rigo is just trying to cash out at this point in his career. It happens to almost every fighter. Mares is a B level fighter at best. Don’t understand why anyone would want to waste forum space to mention Rigondeaux. I’d rather see Fernando Vargas against mayorga II.

Mares is (or has been) an A fighter. Not absolute elite, but few are.

Rigo is a professional. He's trying to make a living. Getting the best purse that money can buy.

That's not cashing out. It's smart business.

I liked that piece you wrote about Paul Gonzalez. I think he actually dropped canizalez in one of those fights. Canizalez went on to become a hall of famer but Paul will always have that win. Hopefully its a misunderstanding or something. Funny though, how any man who claims to have boxing knowledge can work with kids across a number of gyms in the U.S. No fingerprints or record checking needed. Anyways, that's another topic. Rig kind of reminds me of Joan Guzman. A supremely talented fighter who spent too many prime years on the bench. I believe Rig was already long in the tooth when he was introduced to the American audience. His performance against Loma suggests little passion left for the sport. Not sure what kind of audience he has at this point. Maybe I would want to see rig vs the axe man just to see who quits first.

For whatever it´s worth I saw them fight in the 2003 Pan Am Games final where Rigo won a 17-7 decision but that time I was impressed by the then 17-year old Mares who had Rigo running away from him (and scoring points). Rigo won a clear decision but it was evident Mares with a couple more years (and over more rounds) would make the fight more interesting.

At this stage of Rigos career I would favor Mares. I might be wrong but I don´t think Rigo ever again will find the motivation to dig deep when the going gets tough.
