Bantamweight world titleholder Luis Nery is headed back to Japan for a mandatory rematch with former titlist Shinsuke Yamanaka, Teiken Promotions announced at a news conference on Friday.

Nery and Yamanaka will meet in the main event of the March 1 card at the Ryogoku Sumo Arena in Tokyo. On Aug. 15, in Kyoto, Japan, Nery stopped Yamanaka in the fourth round to win the 118-pound world title. However, Nery (25-0, 19 KOs), a 23-year-old southpaw from Mexico, failed a Voluntary Anti-Doping Association-administered drug test as part of the WBC's Clean Boxing Program.

Yamanaka (27-1-2, 19 KOs), 35, had made 12 successful title defenses when he faced Nery and was bidding for No. 13, which would have tied the Japanese record for world title defenses set by Hall of Fame former junior flyweight champion Yoko Gushiken, who established the mark in 1980.

It won't be on tv but there is a legal way to watch it in the UK via a Japanese service

think nery does it again. yamanaka has had a dangerous but vulnerable look for a while and i think nerys good enough to take advantage of the vulnerability again. he did get tagged plenty himself and hurt though so you never know

If you do the free trial you'll be able to watch a Dynamic Glove show from 2016, the Iwasa bout and the Yamanaka bout and some other stuff through the day. Might as well make the most of it ;)

Overweight Nery stripped of WBC 118lb belt

Mexican Luis Nery shamefully forfeited his WBC bantamweight belt on the scale as he couldn’t make the 118-pound class limit on Wednesday in Tokyo, Japan.

At his first trip to the scale, Nery was 123, five pounds over the class limit, and he again weighed in at 121 pounds, still three pounds over, at his second and final trial after two hours.

Should Yamanaka, 117.5 pounds (a half pound under the limit), win the fight, he will be declared new champion. Should he lose or should it end in a draw, the WBC bantamweight belt will become vacant.

How is that dirty cheating? It's not professional but I don't see it as any form of cheating.

Yamanaka has the right to withdraw and leave Nery without a payday, along with a probable fine and suspension.

I don't see how Nery gains from forfeiting his titles on the scale, unless you want to argue that he'll have a weight advantage.

Yamanaka agreed to move forward with the fight because it still afforded him the chance to win back the title he lost to Nery on August 15 at Shimazu Arena in Kyoto, Japan. The WBC bantamweight title is now vacant.

Yamanaka tried Thursday to establish his jab at the beginning of their rematch, but Nery quickly overpowered him.

Yamanaka had a good reign. Was in the top 10 P4P rankings. Nery came to Japan twice, was a mandatory I believe. He is 36 years old after all. Nery can probably make Bant limit. Can dominate the division. The article above stated Yamanaka looked his age.

That seems like a case where one man's bitching is another man's "taking note of what happened." Why did there have to be a second agreement about how overweight he could be? Just as a way to get everybody to agree to go on with the fight after he was overweight in the first place?
